Jared Loughner: "I Planned Ahead"
|Jared Loughner left a series of bizarre notes in a safe in his home prior to Saturday's shooting in Tucson.|
According to multiple reports, investigators searched Loughner's home and found a safe containing at least three strange notes.
On one of the notes, Loughner apparently scrawled "Giffords." On another, he wrote "I planned ahead." On the third, Loughner wrote "my assassination."
In addition to the eerie collection of notes written by Loughner, investigators also found a note written by Giffords to Loughner. That note reportedly thanked Loughner for attending a campaign event Giffords held.
Giffords, meanwhile, remains heavily sedated and in critical condition after she was shot "through the brain," University Medical Center director Pete Rhee says.
The main concern, he says, is swelling of the brain, but doctors have removed a large portion of the left side of her skull to alleviate any pressure that may build. Doctors say she's being awakened periodically and is responding to commands.
A federal complaint already has been filed against Loughner for the shooting.
The federal complaint, filed yesterday by Arizona U.S. Attorney Dennis Burke, includes two counts of murder of a federal official for the murders of Federal Judge John Roll and Giffords' staffer Gabriel Zimmerman. In addition, the complaint includes three counts of attempted murder of a federal official for the assaults on Giffords and others.
Loughner's scheduled to be in court in Phoenix at 2 p.m. today. Check back to Valley Fever for updates.
