Jeffrey Phillips Not Allowed to Chase Ambulances for Six Months; Court Suspends "Tough" Attorney's License

"Need a tough, experienced attorney to protect your future and your freedom?" Well, your gonna have to wait six months -- Jeffrey Phillips' law license has been suspended.
It's official: Jeffrey Phillips, the flashy frontman for the Phillips and Associates personal injury law firm, will not be allowed to practice law for six months thanks to a decision handed down today by the Arizona State Supreme Court.

Following a lengthy investigation last year by the Arizona State Bar Association, it was determined that Phillips failed to supervise his employees well enough to comply with Arizona Rules of Professional Conduct.

Basically, it was found that some of Phillips' clients handed over cash deposits before ever speaking with a qualified attorney. Rather, the investigation determined, clients often were misled into ponying up deposits by office salesmen working on commission.

After the investigation, the Disciplinary Commission of the Supreme Court handed down a
recommendation to suspend Phillips and his "associate" Robert Arentz for six months and one day, followed by two years of probation.

Arentz ultimately served a 60-day suspension and has since been reinstated.

Although the court reduced his suspension by only one day, it's good news for Phillips.

If the suspension had held at six months and one day, Phillips would have had to re-apply with the state bar to resume practice. By dropping the extra day, Phillips will not have to re-apply.

Last year, Phillips told New Times he was disappointed but not surprised by the recommendation from the Disciplinary Commission and that the initial complaint, filed with the State Bar Association back in 2002, was the result of some dissatisfied clients.

"In a two-or-three-year period, our firm handled about 33,000 cases, and only 21 people had a problem with how we represented them," Phillips says. "You just don't win every case, and people get upset about that."

Phillips says some of the 21 clients even wanted their money back, and in most cases, his firm was happy to hand it over.

Phillips and Arentz could have received a recommendation for disbarment but the commission felt that the six-month suspensions would be more appropriate.

I hired This crazy law firm I had to pay them $19,000 up front! the guy that got in trouble with me ended up with a public defender in the 6 months that they supposedlydefended me I got tossed around with about 5 different attorney and they were always late for court I could never seem to recognize me cuz they had never seen me so how can Ia attorney defend me if he hasn't gave the chance to get to know me or my case. at the end me and the other guy and it up what the exact same sentence might as well just of gotten a public defender. as far as them giving you your money back hahaha! Guy has jokes too. 3 years later today I might have to hire an attorney to finish what they never did.

I went there in 2007 and they wouldn't even give me the "Free" consultation until I gave them money, which I did not. I asked how much the BK would cost and they continually told me they would not discuss that until I gave them money as a retainer. I never got to speak with the attorney, just some "Assistant" who continued to walk back and forth from the waiting room to the Attorney. I felt like I was at a car dealership.

Too bad Phillips is gone, he would have been the perfect lawyer/law firm to represent Andrew Thomas/Aubuchon/Alexander. Like minded lawyers. A perfect match.

Phillips & Associates are a bunch of LIARS. When I filed my complaint with the State Bar there was over 3000 complaints and mine is going infront of a Judge because they are a terrible law firm. Their name is so bad in the BBB, State Bar Complaints Office and with the public, they had to change their name to Arizona Law. DO NOT HIRE ANYONE FROM THAT OFFICE. My case was part of his hand slap and they should have taken his license from him perminately. They are scum. They will steal your money.

Time to permanently disbar Phillips and his cohorts who prey upon vulnerable and innocent people, destroying lives daily in a broken legal and criminal justice system that fails to remove unethical and dishonest lawyers.

It's too bad they didn't disbar him permanently. I would never, ever miss his slimy commercials on tv. I would guess he doesn't even cut some slack (financially) to the people that are in his commercials. I'll never, ever solicit the services of an attorney that advertises on tv, especially as much as he does. Where's my remote? I'm watching channel 3 & I'm getting a feeling more of his crap is coming!!!

Phillips got a slap on the wrist. If he were a doctor or a nurse, he'd be sitting in prison. It's well established where their clients get sent for decades under mandatory minimum sentencing so they are silenced for decades. This is the scam that needs to be investigated. The lives that have been destroyed by the revolving door of this "high-profile" law firm is unconscionable! Where is the oversight and accountability?

The legal administrator may mislead you when its time to talk price. Only a lawyer can quote the legal fee. The legal administrator will leave the consultation room to get the legal fee from a lawyer. The legal fee for a bankruptcy is basically based on how much debt you have (the more the debt, the higher the fee). After getting the fee the legal administrator goes to "the desk", who is the supervisor for the legal administrator.

Let's say the lawyer quoted a fee of around $1,995.00 (most bankruptcies will cost that much at PA, give or take $300.00). The desk tells the legal administrator how to sell it.

The legal administrator will tell you the fee is normally $2,600.00 or some such garbage, but if you sign up today he has been authorized to knock $300.00 off the price. After a little back and forth the legal administrator may pull a $300.00 off coupon out of his desk ("don't tell my boss, but I'm going to give you this coupon.") After 10 minutes you're thinking whoa, it's your luck day, you just saved $600.00!!!

But really you're just paying the fee the lawyer quoted to the legal administrator.

The next step after you've agreed to retain it for the legal administrator to try to get you to pay the legal fee all at once. Chances are, since you are going bankrupt, you don't have $1,995.00 laying around to pay lawyers so they will try to leech as much money out of you. "We need $500.00 up front to get started on your case." And so a payment plan is set up to try to get as much money up front as possible, because if you cancel it's hard to get money refunded.

The sad thing is at PA, you pay more compared to hiring a solo practitioner, you get a lot less, and really, these sanctions just scratch the surface.

If you go there for a "free" consultation you get to talk to a "legal administrator" who is a lot like a "used car salesman" - his job is to get you to sign a retainer agreement before you leave. The sales pitch is high pressure. They will try to make it seem like you are not free to leave, they will ask for your drivers license or debit card and then leave the consultation room with your cards (like a used car dealer holding onto your car keys). They will do a "turn", meaning if you don't sign a retainer with one legal administrator they will send in another to try to get you.

They watch you with a camera when you are in the consultation room. (Look up and to your left).

I wish I had known this in 11-2010. Filed with them and paid in full($2900+) and they did nothing. I received a letter in 3-2011 from scumbag DavidWroblewski. I promptly hired a new attorney and cancelled with phillips/wroblewskion 3-24-2011 via fax to Sandra Vejar at (602)-266-3505. I am still waiting forrefund (and/or requested reply to numerous e-mails) so I can pay new lawyer andgo on with my life. phillips/wroblewski won't return ANY calls or e-mails, etc.I filed complaint with state bar, told them about issues and before I even toldthem who the firm was THEY told me it was phillips. I have placed in excess of30 calls and e-mails to their firm. I was told amanda nelson was person to talkto, she is just as bad and won't return ANY calls and her paralegals if you cantalk to them, when they do answer their phones they hang up on you (nikki @x-688 on 5-19). When I did get someone to talk to me in their Q.A. dept.(5-19-11) they told me refund was "pending" for just over $2,000, andnow they won't return calls either. New lawyer (not paralegal) advises whencheck comes cash it and proceed to state bar arbitration, even with theircancellation policy he says arbitrator is unlikely to allow them to keep any $due to all of the problems I have had, and the fact that they have done NOTHINGbut cash my check

We know several incarcerated former clients who had them. Arizona's draconian mandatory minimum sentencing allows them to bury their clients for decades -- non-violent, first offense can get you 75 years. They know and play the game. Why would any of these profiteers ever want to reform Sentencing which is draining the taxpayers and the state dry.

It is a little confusing about Phillips & Association and what they are up to now. Their web page is now called PHILLIPS LAW GROUP and the advertised commercials list the law firm as ARIZONA LAW. I am sure the reason is because of their SCAMS AND STEALING PEOPLES MONEY. We are fed up with all the lies and we want them all to be disbarred.

I cannot tell you how on target you are with this scam artist!  I wish I knew then (1994) what I know now.  I was ripped off, too!  Only was too unassuming to imagine that an attorney could do such a thing!  I would love to see him get a tast of his own medicine!  I wonder if it's too late to submit further complaints...HE needs to be put behind bars and have the key thrown away!  How dare him ruin people's lives like he has don and then, GET AWAY WITH IT!!  Who is the law protecting???  If I ever see his face anywhere, it will be too soon!
