Clay Duke. Go Sun Devils!
What do Barry Bonds, Phil Mickelson, and the guy who shot up the school board meeting in Florida yesterday all have in common? They're all Sun Devils.

Turns out, 56-year-old Clay Duke, who fired several rounds at members of the Bay District school board at a meeting near Panama City, Florida, yesterday, graduated from ASU in 1988 with a degree in recreation and tourism management, ASU spokeswoman Julie Newberg confirms to New Times.

Luckily, Duke's aim is about as accurate as Mickelson's when Lefty's putting for birdie, so nobody was hurt -- except Duke, who managed to kill himself after failing to kill anyone else in the room, despite firing about 20 rounds.

The bizarre scene played out yesterday during a meeting of the school board.

In the middle of the meeting, Duke spray painted a giant, V for Vendetta-esque "V" on the wall before pulling out a gun and trying to  shoot several members of the school board.

The whole thing was recorded by cameras filming the meeting. It's pretty wild, check it out below.

Obviously this Frustrated Guy did not want to Hurt anyone, or else there would hve been alot of Corpses. His Wife said he was a Shaepshooter and anyone could not Miss, at the Range he Fired from. Its Sad that our Society would Force an Indivual to Act in such a Manner. My Prayers go out to His Family..

Okay, wow. I saw it on the national evening news and the entire incident just baffled me.

But he's a Sun Devil (not necessarily that, but one of the mentally unstable that this state is full of -- the unstable led by the unstablest).

It strangely makes sense now.

This state is an echo chamber of rightwing fantasy and paranoia -- many people here already have mysterious political superstitions and complex labyrinths of conspiracy theories to explain away why they haven't succeeded in life; they ascribe all their failures, inabilities, and inadequacies to the federal government, illegal aliens, communists, people even poorer than themselves, or some other scapegoat, and believe if only it weren't for the government/Hispanics/hippies/Karl Marx depriving them of their true desserts, they'd be wealthy, happy, and secure.

Only in Arizona would a gentle-seeming senior citizen actually claim Obama is "gunna turn the White House into one of them Muslim pyramids."

Only in Arizona would an otherwise intelligent person rail that their tax dollars are subsidizing gym memberships for Massachusetts liberals, when the truth about Redstate Welfare is that Arizona, like most red states, are the ones GETTING more than they pay in because our Republican legislators cannot sustain themselves, whereas bluestates, out of a desire for improving our lives closer to the quality of life (more income, better education, etc), are the ones getting the shaft. Massachusetts only gets back $.82 for every dollar they pay the feds, whereas we get the sweeter deal of $1.19 on every dollar paid in:http://www.visualeconomics.com...http://www.inlander.com/spokan...http://content.ksg.harvard.edu...http://taxprof.typepad.com/tax...

For some reason, Arizona is a magnet for illogical wingnuts allergic to facts and reason. It doesn't help that the state legislature is full of them, going wild passing and re-prosing thousands of the same inane ordinances and statutes every few years. Maybe they feel at home, knowing they have an a receptive audience here, where nearly any crackpot idea can be enshrined into state law.

Duke's rampage is like a page right out of the book Hysterical, Paranoid Alternate-Realities of Arizona. The school board, Hispanics, and the feds are all just interchangeable antagonists populating their fantasy worlds.

I'm in the process of moving to Arizona. They have some Super Great Good people there, not Dipsticks much like yourself that would attempt to Dazzle us with your Fancy Footwork Jargon that absolutly makes NO SENSE what-so-ever

Extremely well said, Slimsetter! Factual AND articulate. I've lived here all my 59 years and the wingnuts have always been here. But the election of Obama has apparently awakened many of their numbers who were somewhat quietly nesting in the woodwork, afraid to speak very loudly for fear of PC backlash. But the Tea Baggers and the Glen Becks have emboldened them anew to clear their collective throats and bleat out their paranoid fear mongering.

Speaking of inane laws, isn't it the height of hypocrisy that those who bellow most loudly about losing "our freedoms" to the liberals are the same ones who pass all the laws restricting personal behaviors and attempts to legislate morality, while throwing the gates open to the corporations to rape and pillage and fleece the populace at large on a monumental scale.

You both are totally spot on. This state has some of the most wonderful and intelligent people, unfortunately the ignorant masses down out any voices of reason. David you are right, the election of Obama really brought it out of them.

I've been here over a decade now and I still can't believe some of the crazies I meet here. Not just the lunatic right wingers whose brains obviously have been cooked from their desert meth labs cooking in the sun, but even the average stay at home mom like my neighbor, god bless her but she's nuts, always warning me that if we don't take our country back we might not even have a presidential election in 2012 cuz Obama &his financial connections like George Sorros, want to seize power for life. Her latest is asking me if I realized Obama &Hillary committed treason by authorizing the wikileaks docs released, to undermine and weaken the country. When I looked into that, turns out wikileaks criticized them both esp Clinton for wanting the leaked info covered up and NOT released. When I told my neighbor this, I kid you not, she looked me square in the face and said "Exactly, Steve. What else is the government hiding, why is his whole administration cloaked in secrecy? What else are they trying to hide that they don't want the American people to know?? All we want is some answers."

!!!!!!!!!

Felt like banging my head on the wall repeatedly if this is our future, Arizona off its meds.

These people refuse to be swayed by facts, no matter what the pres does to them its just more "proof" of their paranoid delusions.

I don't even bother anymore. Its all just a game of logical Hide&Seek where being ignorant and brainwashed is actually considered winning the game.
