Steve Nash and Wife Headed for Splitsville; Announces Divorce Plans Day After Birth of Son

Steve Nash and wife, Alejandra, are callin' it quits.

​Steve Nash may not be entering the Canadian political arena -- yet, anyway -- but there is some new gossip on the Suns star that we swear is actually true: Nash and is wife of five years are getting divorced.

Nash released a statement on Saturday -- a day after the birth of his third child with the soon-to-be ex-Mrs. Nash, Alejandra -- saying the two have been living separately for the last several months. As is often the case when celebrity couples call it quits, Nash says the two are still committed to raising their children "in the most positive, nurturing way possible."


"I am very thankful and excited that we have a new son, Matteo Nash. Alejandra and the baby are doing fine. But this is a bittersweet moment for my wife and I; after five years, we are now in the process of dissolving our marriage," Nash revealed in his statement.
"I want only good things for Ale going forward," Nash continues. "I'm focused on ensuring that our children understand how much they're adored and loved by us as they continue to adjust to these changes. I would ask that their privacy, and ours as a family, be respected as we move forward. This will be my only statement on this."

News of the divorce has already fueled more speculation about whether Nash will be traded from the Suns. One sports blogger even suggests Nash's divorce will be the factor that drives the point guard away from Phoenix. Check it out here.

That theory sounds a bit on the ridiculous side, if you ask us -- almost as ridiculous as the claim Nash's leaving the NBA to throw his hat into Canadian politics (zing!).
