Prop 203 Spokesman: "We're Likely to Win" Based on Trend of Provisional Ballots

Categories: Election 2010

Andrew Myers, the campaign manager for Proposition 203, tells New Times tonight that he's very hopeful the medical marijuana initiative will come out on top when all the votes are in.

It seems like wishful thinking, but official figures show he might be right.

Myers points out that provisional ballots counted in other counties are skewing much more favorably toward the "yes" side than the general ballots. This effect can be seen in the "vote type summary" section of election results on the Secretary of State's Web site. The provisional ballots so far counted give 10,953 votes to the "yes" side and just 7,029 to the "no" side.

If that trend holds up when Maricopa County counts its 41,000 remaining provisional ballots, Prop 203 would go from losing by about 3,000 less than 1,500 votes (as of Thursday night) to winning by several thousand, Myers says.

"We're likely to win," he explains.

Myers thinks the provisionals are trending toward 203 is because younger people tend to move around more and the addresses on their identification cards don't match the address on file with the elections department. Younger people, surveys showed, support 203 in far higher numbers than average.

A final tally won't be available until Monday or Tuesday, officials say.

Here's the latest breakdown of what's left to count, via Matt Benson of the Secretary of State's office:

As of Thursday afternoon, there are an estimated 14,000 early ballots and 45,000 provisional ballots statewide that are yet to be processed and counted. All of the remaining early ballots are in Maricopa County. Of the provisional ballots yet to be processed, 41,000 are in Maricopa County. The remainder is split among Coconino, Yavapai, Yuma and Gila counties.

WE WON!!!

Now we just have to keep the legislature from nullifying this bill like they did in the past.

The genie is out of the bottle. Marijuana will be legalized, taxed and regulated. It is only a matter of time. I hope that all you Republicans and teabaggers against legal marijuana are also in favor of alcohol prohibition.

Marcy, in America we make sure that all votes are counted. The only reason the provisional ballots wouldn't be counted would be if the race were a landslide. Sorry, every vote will be counted and in the end hopefully medical marijuana will pass in Arizona. To all of those that take issue with marijuana, this bill is about outright legalization and decriminalization, its about freedom to choose a plant if one wishes to do so and you can fight it all you want, if it doesn't become legal this time around it will the next. The numbers overnight put the bill shy by just over a thousand votes with 50k left to count which are trending toward YES on 203.

I think as politics go, prop 203 has to win at this point anyway , don't you think? Think about it? Arizona really needs the money it will bring in $$$ and everything is already in place, what's up with that?

If we as logically thinking people can all clearly agree that God gave us opium to be used for pain, and yet we see it is abused as heroin; Should we then seek to ban all use of opium derived pain pills? Keeping them from people in need of them? Let it never be!. What logically thinking person would not also see that God gave marijuana for medicine, but it can also be abused? By the way I don't currently use marijuana. I may try it for anxiety relief WHEN it does finally become legal. 6 foot bong hits to me = stupidity and abuse. Hash pills and or vaporized cannabis high in cbd's for pain, or other medical purposes and or relaxation = a great benefit to mankind. I would much rather see people vape a hit of weed at the end of the day to relax then get trashed on alcohol. Please world wake up and see reality.

Potheads tend to be delusional much of the time. For example, they can't comprehend that provisional ballots, by their very nature, tend to not counted AT ALL much of the time.

In other words, 45,000 provisional ballots won't generate 45,000 counted votes.

Also, I did say that only logically thinking people would see that God had made these plants for our benefit because only logically thinking people believe in a creator in the first place. Not knocking anybody that does not believe in a creator by the way, but I am pointing out that logic does point in that direction and I am logical in everything. The creators work is evident in all things. Just look at whole foods for example. For instance, why do you think spice (jwh-018) is so bad for you? Its because they are just synthesizing one part of cannabis. The THC. They leave out all the other cannabinoids that balance the effects out. CBD is one cannabinoid that counteracts a lot of, if not all the negative effects that THC can have. That is why it is also important to get cannabis that the CBD has not been bread out of. :) Some corrupt or just ignorant growers only seek to produce THC and neglect the CBD, thus it has been bread out of lots of strains. The only way we are going to get it back it to ask our dispensary's for it when they open. Look at this link on project CBD www.projectcbd.com. There you will learn all about what I am talking about. Another example of this type of creative design from God, is green tea. Green tea has caffeine and theanine . They balance each other out. Look it up and you will see. "Whole foods and whole medicines from plants have their place in humanity and that is evidence of design". I challenge you to think that statement through logically. By the way I don't advocate not taking paramedicals if they are truly needed. I am not a freak or anything. It is clear though, that if you can naturally treat something then it is far healthier to do that then the alternative. For instance, you can lower your cholesterol A LOT by just taking garlic supplements or fresh garlic. Thats a lot better for your liver then a statin drug. :)

What a moron!I guess the FACT that 18,554 Provisional Ballots have already been counted does not matter to you and your ignorance? That is a FACT on the Arizona Secretary of State website. As of the end of day on 11/11/2010 18,554 Provisional Ballots have already been counted. http://results.enr.clarityelec...You are an ignorant moron Marcy!

Marcy-

Put down your glass of liquor and respond this: to be delusional, one must hold beliefs that disagree with the majority. It would appear, that you are in fact, delusional. To think that all "potheads" are delusional is petty and insignificant. A surprising number of "potheads" are well-educated, highly-skilled professionals with families and healthy incomes. For all you know, your doctor is "delusional". How does that sit with you?

I think what you have confirmed, is that there are still people in this world who are as pea-brained and as ignorant as you.

Your comments are juvenile at best. Next time you take the time to humor us with your responses, put some actual thought behind them. Please. It was far too easy to respond to you.

And you Macy, don't seem to understand that all the provisional votes will be counted this time because of how incredibly close the race is. They don't count all of the provisional ballots when there are not enough of them to change the vote regardless of the number. In this case, there are more than enough to swing the vote in our favor. We just will not know what happens until all the votes are cast. We are trailing by less than 1500 votes right now and the provisionals are highly in our favor. This is not delusional as you put it. We are simply intelligent enough to look at the real numbers.

Furthermore, Adrienn is correct, Not all who use cannabis are a bunch of lazy jerks. I am a 4.0 undergrad doing original research with plans for graduate school and eventually a Ph.D. I've accomplished way more in my young life than many people twice my age have, using cannabis the whole time. If one is going to be a lazy good for nothing, they are going to do it with or without marijuana.

i don't know the current figures but conditional ballots make up a small number of the total provisional ballots remaining. as tuesday was the deadline for voters to clear up the issue that called for a conditional ballot, conditionals may not be counted in this number at all. most of these votes will be counted.

Yeah I don't really think calling people who smoke pot, potheads is very ethical and besides that's like calling a black person the n word, it's rude, and implies that we all just think about marihuana all the time guess what you would be wrong, I myself am a chef and a good one at that and I smoke pot, and It's not for potheads it's for medical patients who absolutely need it, such as cancer and AIDS patients, and other sub categories that say you can have medical marihuana. Oh and saying someone who's radiation treatment and the AIDS patient who can't hold an appetite are all potheads is ridiculous, you are just obviously a communist with your republican views

JH
JH

The bill is specifically for seriously ill patients and there is a specific list illnesses which are eligible for medical cannabis such as HIV/AIDS, cancer, MS, glaucoma, and severe and chronic pain which has to have a documented history. If you have any of these or the other specific conditions, than yes, you are eligible to receive medical cannabis. If not, then you'll either have to move to Ca. or keep fighting for decriminalization here in Az.

Marcy
Marcy

I thought the proposition only covered potheads with certain medical conditions.

Being delusional isn't one of the covered medical conditions.

What an unbelievable moron. In a battle of wits, only someone who was absolutely baked out of their mind would present their argument in such a childish grammar-free manner. You are the reason the world is a bad place - not because of drugs - because you are stupid.

There are so many grammatical errors, spelling errors, disconnected thoughts, and awkward, unfounded half-analogies that have no basis, and are grounded in nothing resembling logic.

If you would please read a book - any book - it would do the human race so much more good than running around voting on a subject you have no knowledge on. Legalizing pot is a great thing - legalizing every drug would be a great thing - but not for any of the half-baked reasons your small, over-clocked, uneducated brain can comprehend.

I hope to God you have not and will not ever make any food that I ever eat.

Marcy is obviously hooked on some kind of drug. But it was manufactured by a pharmaceutical company and prescribed by her doctor so she's not ACTUALLY an addict. Or maybe she's just an alcoholic. But that's a disease and she can't help herself. Whichever it is, it's IS obvious that there is some kind of mental impairment present.

Marcy dear, when your daughter comes days away from dying of starvation because she has nausea, diarrhea and vomiting from her Crohn's disease and makes a decision to try marijuana as a last resort - and can eat and keep food down saving her life. Well, dear, when that happens to you, you come back here and tell me that my daughter (who by the way now has gained 25 pounds in 10 months because of this miracle drug) is a pothead. And I'll tell you that the 11 legal prescriptions that the doctors had given her only made her worse and the 1 illegal medicine saved her life.

Go stick a sock in it honey!
