Prop 203 Closes Gap -- But Isn't Quite There Yet; Latest Vote Count Shows Medical Marijuana Still in Running

Proposition 203 seems to be gaining an edge as officials continue to count votes.

The ballot measure that would legalize medical marijuana in Arizona was about 6,500 votes behind as of last night.

It's closing the gap: The difference now is only 3,870 votes.

State and county officials will be counting the provisional ballots and early ballots dropped off Tuesday at the polls for a few days yet.

There are more than 300,000 uncounted votes left statewide, says a bulletin this evening from the Arizona Secretary of State's office. Of those, 225,000 are from Maricopa County and 30,000 are from Pima county. The rest come from other counties.

According to a separate news release from the Maricopa County election department this evening, the county has 234,000 votes left to count.

Yesterday, Maricopa and Pima had more than 320,000 votes to count. That means about 65,000 votes (plus, whatever was counted in the smaller counties) managed to erase about 3,000 "no" votes from the running tally.

If that trend keeps up, the "yes" votes will win out after another day or so of counting.

Marcy , I'm sorry but your an ignorant hypocrite . Poppies or Heroin is man made . You just don't pick a poppy & shoot it in your veins . Murder or genocide arises from its illegality . Just what pharmaceutical Company do you work for ? It's either that or you work for Budweiser or another deadly drug company .

... so if i get it, & I think I do …

Registered Voters: 3,146,418 Ballots Cast: 1,379,557 Voter Turnout: 43.85 % YES 657,667 NO 664,609 As of Nov 3; 6942 more az voters than an exact 50/50 split of 3146418 total voters = .0022 of the az electorate. Therefore, despite the secretary of states graphic that shows 12 of Az's 15 counties going against the measure ... such a graphic truly perpetuates an illusion and conceals the injustice that < .002 of the electorate appears to have managed to squeak a dictate against the 657,667 citizens who voted for change, along with the 56% of the electorate that didnt feel strongly enough either way to vote. Can anyone doubt a substantial # of these naysayers are directly profiting from the current prohibition; employed as police/jail guards/prison consultants/drug counselors / ad nauseum …& this is what nutcases like the likes of marcy call democracy? & meanwhile … the corporatocracy with elements such as Diebold that make & program the machines that are supposed to count these votes? Where are the UN observers?& didn’t some wise person somewhere say that one of the keys to democracy is to protects the rights of the minority form the tyranny of the majority?such a pity evolution moves so slowly & in reverse for so many of these CONservative neanderthals. May they all enter the fossil record & soon.

I think that there were a lot of eligible voters who supported this measure, that were too lazy and unmotivated to go out and vote. Too busy smoking a bowl, perhaps? Too many of you "in the supposed majority" simply can't be bothered to participate. Selfishness defined. A banner trait of baby boomers everywhere.

Only 2737 votes seperate the "NO" vote from the "YES" vote as of about 20 minutes ago

Marcy clearly has never suffered. Never watched herself slowly dying because she couldn't keep food or even water down. She's never had to wear a heart monitor because he heart is barely beating because of the weight that she's lost due to a life threatening illness.

I have! That was me just a few short months ago. The wonderful side affects of the 19 pills a day I was prescribed for my Crohn's Disease.

Then...a miracle happened.

I was told to try marijuana to help with my symptoms. That was June 26, 2010. I weighed myself that morning, at 5 foot 9 inches I weighed only 96lbs.

As of today, I am up 30lbs and feeling better than I have in years. I also no longer take ANY prescription medications.

So for those of you who voted NO on 203, or who don't support this bill. SHAME ON YOU!

Curious how of ALL the potential substances on Earth, that Marijuana is the ONLY thing that will alleviate YOUR pain. Kind of like how a heroin junkie can only be satisfied by heroin. To that guy, it's "medicine".

I suppose it would be more socially acceptable for me to take pain killers and other mind/mood altering drugs just because a doctor gave me a prescription and I purchased it at a pharmacy.

Or I could use a very small amount of a plant that grows from the earth....

Liver failure, mood swings, high risk of addiction vs the ability to eat and not vomit....I think I'll take the latter.

You are welcome to continue to be close minded and cruel...whatever helps make you feel important...

You think that cannabis improving appetite and relieving nausea is "anecdotal?"

It is PROVEN.

Of all the possible mixtures, herbs, plants, compounds, chemicals on Earth, are you honestly expecting rational people to believe that this one "magic wonder" substance is exclusively capable of solving the problems you describe?

You guys were far more entertaining when you played hacky-sack around a card table at my university and tried to convince me that hemp was the magical substance that would correct all of the world's food shortages and clothing needs. Why the sudden shift in legalization strategies? Do you seriously think that we have such a short memory?

Some day, hopefully, this country will get it's archaic head out of the sand to become enlightened enough to actually decriminalize cannabis. The prohibition of the medicinized use of cannabis, and it's illegal status for personal enjoyment is completely out of synch with being a progressive society that allows responsible citizens to make their own choices. Cannabis should be decriminalized nationally and it's cultivaton, distribution and purchase should be controlled and taxed like tabacco, alcohol and prescription medications. This is the 21st century and this country should ACT like it.

I see trolls like Marcy and Wikid, who love to spew their ignorant, outdated stereotypes and cliches, unfortunately still exist. These are the type of mental midgets who believe propaganda like "Reefer Madness", and who like to call people names like "pothead", just because those people may imbibe a different (and FAR safer) substance than their legal drug of choice....alcohol. They try to portray people who use marijuana as degenerate drug addicts who can't hold a job and who live in Mom's basement.I have to laugh at that as I look around my nice home...paid for by well-paying job which I've held for many years. So much for their stereotype...LOL!While it's unfortunate that these idiots still exist, it's heartening to know that they are rapidly dwindling in numbers as more and more people realize the idiocy and extreme hypocrisy of marijuana prohibition.

It's not a matter of "IF" marijuana will eventually be legal and regulated....just a matter of "WHEN". All the numbers show this nationwide. More and more people are coming on board all the time. Of course, people like Marcy will now get on here and say I'm wrong....but it's coming, people. And they can deny that fact all they want, but in their heart of hearts they know it's true.

Hey Marcy: I hope that you contract a most insidious form of cancer. Something like I have. I hope that you try the drugs that the big Pharma puts out for pain, nausea, etc. I pray that they don't work for you. Then I hope that you will linger for months, years with the most excruciating pain and nausea. Then I hope you die!!

Capt Pothead,

Cocaine and heroin come from simple plants grown naturally in our own earth as well. So does poison ivy and hemlock.

Heroin also does a great job of relieving pain as do most of the members of the opiate family.

Mistalee
Mistalee

And you will note that many of those opiates are legal when prescribed by a physician for medical purposes.

Which is a strong argument for the LEGALIZATION OF MEDICAL MARIJUANA.

Think before you say these things.

Tea from the inner bark of hemlock helps relieve symptoms of colds, scurvy, and diarrhea. Poison ivy has been used for centuries as an ingredient in arthritis relief salves. Heroin was originally a Bayer product.

Do you actually know anything about what you're talking about?

Why do Arizonans vote no? whether you like it around or not, cannabis will always be around and people will use it legally or illegally......Besides........... Wouldn't you rather boost Arizona's economy? Or would you rather boost the pockets of the foreign drug cartels?

Marcy
Marcy

Murder will always be around, whether you like it or not, and people will commit it whether legal or not.

I'm certainly all in favor of Arizona's druggies no longer funding the violence in Mexico. Perhaps potheads should be charged as accessories to murder?

Loosecannonsbluesband
Loosecannonsbluesband

Marcy, your comment about illegal drug users being complict in the violence which accompanies that black-market trade is the ONLY comment you've made so far that is accurate. Pot, Coke, Heroin, etc. are illegal because of the political processes of this Country. As citizens, it is our responsibility to "own" our government and in this case make laws which are fair and increase the enjoyment of the rights guaranteed by our constitution. As purchasers of these illegal drugs, the users should also take responsibility for the violence which accomapnies that trade. I have for many years attempted to limit my purchases of any substance that harms others, either in its production or transportation or sale. Pot is one such substance. I've grown my own and encourage others to do so as well. It's grows just like a weed for gosh sakes and it's FREE!

I implore my fellow pot lovers. PLEASE stop buying the stuff from dealers and boycott the system that continues to keep our freedoms limited. Every time you give money to a dealer to buy pot, you're contributing to a system that keeps pot illegal. The dealers don't want the laws changed, they're making money! You think they're not contributing to the campaigns of the anti-pot candidates? You think they're not activity contributing to the discussion on these internet sites to advocate against legalization? They are!

Goddamn the dealer man!

Stop Making Sense

Right now, a 5-minute transaction is considerably safer on a personal level than a few months of maturing plants. Change that, and yeah, fuck dealers.

I dont know what the big deal is give it to us already even the bible says that all plants r put on this earth for mans consumption lets not forget that its not a bill for recreational use its for medical reasons i have hurific panic atacks and the only thing tht helps without side efects is to partake.

Marcy

So heroin is OK because the bible says the opium plant was put on earth for man's consumption?

Well considering Oxycodone, Hydrocodone, Methadone, Morphine, Fentanyl and many many many other painkillers used widely in the medical field to alleviate temporary and chronic pain are ALL derived from the poppy plant, some of which are more powerful than even heroin, then obviously yes according to the widespread public its OK for people to consume opiates. You realize that Marijuana is being used in states where it has been legalized in order to REPLACE many of those more powerful, addictive, and harmful drugs right? What would you rather have for people with Arthritis, Cancer, Glaucoma, and numerous other diseases? Narcotics which are physically addictive and harmful over time or THC, a chemical that is shown to be impossible to overdose on and does not cause a physical addiction?

Marcy

OK, the poppy plant. From which opium is derived.

theres so many people who would benefit from the medical factors of marijuana, enough with the old visions of reefer madness and in with the new ones of people with illnesses not having to suffer from the pains of there illness they never asked for,i personally have witnessed it with grandma having cancer and mother having multiple schlorosis,an if a simple plant grown naturally in our own earth can help in any way with the suffering then im all for it,the futures upon us people, its time to make some right changes with it
