Gerardo Higginson
Gerardo Higginson, a senior aide to Phoenix Mayor Phil Gordon, is heading back to his broadcasting roots.

After about seven years of working for Gordon as a liaison to the Latino, immigrant and minority communities, and Spanish-language media, Higginson accepted a job as the Community Relations and Public Affairs Director for Univision and TeleFutura Arizona.

Before he started working for the City of Phoenix in 2002 as a public-information officer, he was a reporter and news anchor for Telemundo Arizona, worked for, and had a column in La Voz.

Higginson starts his new gig on January 3.

And it's not a bad move considering that Univision, a Spanish-language television network, has earned top ratings, beating out big English-language stations earlier this year.

USA Today reported, "Univision was the most popular network among television viewers aged 18 to 49 years old (in September), the first time a Spanish-language station has beaten English stations in this key demographic in the United States."
