Would-Be Burglar Forrest Gump-ed by Homeowner. Guy Shot Suspect in Backside During Attempted Burglary
|"Somethin' jumped up and bit me!"|
Yesterday, it seems shotgun justice prevailed after a 19-year-old suspect and one of his buddies tried to break into the home of a Phoenix man.
According to the Phoenix Police Department, the homeowner and his wife had been burglarized once before. In another incident, the 30-year-old homeowner's wife was able to chase away another suspected burglar, who knocked on the door harder than normal. In other words, it was clear to the woman the person on the other side of the door wasn't there to sell cookies.
So, yesterday, when the homeowner was home alone, he heard another unusually loud knock at the door.
Thinking it was another person trying to burglarize his home, he grabbed his shotgun and went to the door.
He looked through the peephole and saw two men trying to break down his door. He backed up and watched as the two men forced it open.
Once the men were inside, the homeowner was ready. He fired his gun and hit one of the suspects -- a 19-year-old -- in the ass.
The other suspect, described by police as a Hispanic man in his mid-20s, escaped before the homeowner had a chance to shoot him, too.
The 19-year-old suspect was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
The Maricopa County Attorney's Office will conduct an investigation to determine whether to charge the homeowner.
