Terry Goddard Declares "Surge" in Polls -- Based on Polling Numbers From One Congressional District

Arizona Attorney General Terry Goddard, the Democratic candidate for governor, is beaming today after the results of a new poll were released showing he's narrowed the gap in the polls separating him and his GOP opponent, Governor Jan Brewer.

According to the latest poll, Brewer now only leads Goddard by seven points, 52 percent to 45 percent. That "surge" -- as Goddard's campaign is calling it -- is only polling data from one, "more-Conservative" Congressional district, not the entire state.

Either way, Terry's lovin' it.

"It's encouraging because it shows tremendous movement, and it shows that voters are listening and responding to the real story of how badly Jan Brewer has failed this state," Goddard says.

Not really -- it was one district -- but OK.

Not to mention, the poll was conducted on behalf of Project New West, a left-leaning advocacy group for western states.

Unfortunately for Goddard, aside from those numbers only representing a single Congressional district, this poll is about as reliable as a Rasmussen poll released two weeks ago -- which we also took with a healthy serving of salt -- showing very different results.

According to the Rasmussen poll, Brewer leads Goddard with 60 percent of the vote to Goddard's 38 percent -- and that was almost immediately following Jan's epic brain fart during the gubernatorial debate.

A similar poll conducted prior to Jan's moment of silence showed Brewer leading the race with 57 percent to Goddard's 38 percent.

For anyone not keeping score, according to Rasmussen, Jan's less-than-stellar performance in the debate actually helped her poll numbers.

We'll vote for Goddard, who is an intelligent and decent person. We believe he will do the right thing. He's worked diligently, as a professional without wasting his time with media stunts. It's time to get the elected officials PR budgets and flacks removed totally! Everyone needs to get back to work hunting down the violent drug cartels and human traffickers which SB1070 has NOT addressed.

@Concerned Citizen, at least there is a Libertarian Party member in the hat. Seems like he is the only option to vote for. And I'm sure you wouldn't want another arpaio lap dawg in the C.A office, would you?

The sad part is Goddard will be a better Governor than Brewer, and that isn't saying much at all.

How about mentioning that Rasmussen is a "a right-leaning pollster" with long ties to hard-right Republican organizations?

If you're going to slam ideology, let both sides have it.

I am not sure that Goddard will be a good Governor. However, he gets my vote over the "have did" candidate.

We'll vote for Kielsky and get others to do the same, as will other concerned citizens.

Speaking of that -- how is it that the Democrats didn't even field ONE candidate for the Maricopa County Attorney's office -- the most powerful position in the state? Truly disgusting.

Thought I made it fairly clear when I said I took his results with a "healthy serving of salt."

I AM sure Goddard will be a good governor. He's done an excellent job with the AG office given the pressure the wingnut legislature puts on him to make due with inadequate resources. Goodard was a good mayor of Phoenix. Among his accomplishments as mayor, he was a major catalyst to get freeways built in the early 1980s. Without Terry Goddard's leadership, Phoenix would be a massive train wreck of gridlock.
