Morning Poll: Should County Attorney Seek Death Penalty in Murder of Chandler Cop?

Five men were indicted yesterday in the murder of Chandler Police Officer Carlos Ledesma.

The suspects, Thadika Singleton, 38; John Webber, 37; Doarnell Jackson, 35; Jerry Wayne Cockhearn, 25; and Eldridge Gittens, 34, each has been charged with first-degree murder, as well as several other crimes including attempted armed robbery and conspiracy to sell marijuana.

Jackson, the alleged shooter, also has been charged with premeditated first-degree murder, too.

County Attorney Rick Romley said yesterday he "wouldn't be surprised" if his office sought the death penalty in the case but wouldn't say for sure whether it would.
