If you're wanted on a felony warrant, hanging out at a county jail that's swarming with cops seems like a great place to get yourself caught.

That didn't stop a Phoenix man, though, who paid a visit to a friend in the county clink. The visit resulted in a high-speed chase with the cops that ultimately landed him behind bars, too.

According to the Yavapai County Sheriff's Office, 26-year-old Christopher Walter went to the Yavapai County Detention Center on Monday afternoon to visit a friend.

After Walter signed in, detention officers discovered he had an outstanding felony warrant for his arrest and called the YCSO.

Deputies arrived at the jail, and while trying to cuff Walter, he took off.

Walter ran from the visitation area on the second floor of the jail, down the stairs, through the lobby, into the parking lot, and dived into the passenger-side window of a waiting Jeep Cherokee, driven by his friend, Isaac Delgado, 27.

Delgado then sped away.

A sheriff's deputy was waiting at the end of the road leading away from the jail. The deputy stopped the Jeep and took the driver, Delgado, into custody.

Meanwhile, Walter, who was still in the Jeep, moved into the driver's seat and bounced again.

Walter drove across a highway, through a wash, and onto the nearby Apache Indian Reservation, where he crashed the Jeep off of a 20-foot embankment.

Walter, seemingly unfazed after driving off a cliff, started running and lost police in a nearby neighborhood.

Deputies, with the help of tribal police, tracked down Walter in the neighborhood soon after he crashed the car and took him into custody.

Walter was taken back to the jail -- this time as an inmate, not a visitor -- where he was booked on a parole Violation warrant, and charges of reckless driving, criminal damage, resisting arrest, and fleeing pursing law enforcement.

He's being held without bond.

The driver of the car, Delgado, was booked on charges of hindering prosecution and resisting arrest. He's being held on $12,500 bail.
