The disappearance of Town Lake is only one of the problems Tempe's facing these days. The other: armed robberies -- lots of them -- happening in roughly the same area, each with a similar M.O.

Since April 11, nine people have been robbed at gunpoint in the northwest section of the city.

Tempe Police Sergeant Steve Carbajal tells New Times police aren't sure if the robberies were committed by the same person -- or group of people -- but says the circumstances surrounding many of the robberies are similar.

Most of the robberies have occurred on the weekends during prime bar hours.

Check out a list of the time, date, and location of each robbery below.

In several cases, a group of up to four people will approach victims as they walk in parking lots or on streets in the area. The robbers, in many cases, will ask the victims questions like whether they are ASU students or if they could use the victims' cell phone.

Once the robbers got the victims' attention, someone pulls out a gun and steals their stuff.

Carbajal says suspects in many of the robberies are described as black males in their late teens or early 20s.

To combat the surge of armed robberies, the Tempe PD's ACTION Team (Attacking Crime Trends in Our Neighborhoods), bike squad, and robbery detectives have been investigating the incidents.

Anyone with information about the robberies, or potential suspects, is asked to call Tempe police at 480-350-8311 or Silent Witness at 480-WITNESS.

More and more robbers are gonna appear in the next couple of years or so because the police is only worried about other more serious crimes like ransom kidnaps or murders.because the police are more worried in the damn serious crimes they wont care about the smaller crimes like robbing....
