Arizona Diamondbacks Swept By Philadelphia; Lose Seventh Straight

In the end, this loss was just like most of the others this season.

Little offense, the lack of a clutch hit, stupid mental errors.

Another game, another D-Backs loss - this time 3-2 to the Philadelphia Phillies in 11 innings.

This one makes seven in a row.

Down 2-1 in the ninth, the D-Backs rallied for the tying run. Yet they should have had a lot more.

Justin Upton doubled to start the inning (extending his hitting streak to 14 games) and later scored on a groundout by Miguel Montero.

But the Snakes had a chance for the potential winning run with one out and the bases loaded. Instead, Gerardo Parra grounded into an inning-ending double play.

Pissed off at himself (and probably the entire 2010 season) Parra slammed his helmet down and was promptly ejected.

Arizona's ill-fated bullpen tried their best to protect the game, pitching 3.1 scoreless innings. But an RBI single in the bottom of the 11th gave Philly the win.

Joe Saunders, in his Snakes' debut, was brilliant, pitching seven solid innings while only allowing two runs and walking nobody.

The Snakes offense was nowhere to be found until late in the game, after Saunders was already pulled. And even then their appearance wasn't a grand one, netting only two measly runs.

No D-Back reached second base until the seventh inning and the team only had seven total hits. Montero has both RBIs on the night, including a home run.

The loss means another sweep for an Arizona opponent this year, the 11th time such a thing has occurred. Not that it's a surprise anymore.

At 37-65, the Snakes have almost caught up (or down) to the Pittsburgh Pirates for the worst record in the National League.

The team begins a three-game series against the New York Mets tonight at 4:10 p.m., the same team they swept last week at home. Ian Kennedy (5-8, 4.10 ERA) gets the start against Mike Pelfrey (10-5, 4.00 ERA).
