Barret Loux
When the D-Backs selected Barret Loux with the sixth-overall pick in the draft last month, many thought it was a reach.

Now there will be even more questions about the Snakes selection of Loux, who reportedly failed his physical with the team.

Can the Snakes do anything right these days?

By failing his physical for having issues with his shoulder, negotiations between Loux and the D-Backs have ground to a halt.

It's still a possibility that the two sides can come to an agreement, but the D-Backs certainly have the advantage now in negotiations.

If a deal can't be reached by August 16, the D-Backs would get the seventh overall pick in the draft next year.

Maybe this isn't a total surprise, however, as Loux did have surgery in 2009 to remove bone chips from his right elbow, which is also his throwing arm.

As a junior with Texas A&M last year, Loux was 11-2 with a 2.83 ERA. But his workload increased as the season progressed, as he threw 120 pitches or more in four starts starting in May.

This isn't necessarily bad news for the Snakes. Although they might be high on him as an organization, they are the only ones who think he should have been taken so high.

The failed physical gives them the option of a cheaper contract or getting a high pick next year.

Maybe this is a minor speed bump for Loux, who may still make it in the organization.

But this team needs something to go right in the next few weeks. It's mid-July, and fans are already shifting their focus to the Cardinals.
