We got word yesterday that as U.S. Senate hopeful Rodney Glassman hits the campaign trail with his snazzy, new, Arizona flag lapel pin, one of his opponents in the Democratic primary will be contributing to the Huffington Post

U.S. Senate candidate, and former New Times columnist, John Dougherty announced that as he campaigns to "unseat Senator John McCain," he'll also be contributing to the left-leaning Huffington Post's political blog.

Aside from his gig with New Times, Dougherty's work has appeared in the New York Times and the Washington Post, and he was named Journalist of the Year by the Arizona Press Club three times.

In his first post, Dougherty explains that he decided to make the jump from investigative reporter to full-time campaigner because of the state Democratic Party's failure to put forward a candidate "prepared to fight."

"Other than the then-vice-mayor of Tucson, a 32-year-old professional student (five degrees!) who had managed a family ice staking rink and was flush with a nice stash of cash from the family's agribusiness and fertilizer empire (the top Dems call this a "self-funding" candidate), there was no formidable candidate who could beat either Republican on the horizon," Dougherty writes.
