For the first half of last season, the best offensive player on the Phoenix Coyotes was undoubtedly left winger Scottie Upshall.

A knee injury in late January ended Upshall's season prematurely, however, and others stepped up as the Yotes made surprising run to the playoffs.

Now, Coyotes fans will see Upshall back on the ice next season, as he was signed to a one-year deal Wednesday. The team says its policy forbids disclosing terms of the deal.

Upshall was on fire before his knee injury as he had 18 goals (already a career-high) and 14 assists in just 49 games. If he hadn't been injured, he probably would have eclipsed the 30-goal mark.

Major props to GM Don Maloney for re-signing Upshall. He's a scoring threat that will surely help out next season.

Besides, goalie Ilya Bryzgalov can't be counted on for a shutout every game, right?
