Robbie Findley Unimpressive, United States Just Plain Lucky Against England
Findley, who starred at Shadow Mountain High School almost a decade ago, actually got the start at forward this past weekend against England in Saturday's 1-1 draw.
Unfortunately for the hometown boy, Findley looked as if he was starstruck by the bright lights and electric atmosphere of the big stage. While his speed is obviously a huge component of his game, he looked lost at times with the ball.
In fact, Findley didn't even have a shot on goal.
Some credit must go to England's defensive backfield, though.
And in fairness to Findley, there weren't many great scoring chances for the Americans on Saturday. The whole U.S. team looked somewhat nervous on the pitch, as evident by giving up an early goal against England.
Jozy Altidore's clank off the post was the best scoring chance the U.S. had in the game.
Yes, better than this attempt by Clint Dempsey.
At this point, we would like to thank England goalie Robert Green for gift-wrapping a goal for the Americams. Without it, the U.S. would have lost.
We expect the United States' offense to find some rhythm in the final two matches in group play. And if Robbie Findley gets the start again, we hope he elevates his game.
