ASU Baseball Sloppy on 6-3 Loss to Clemson to Open College World Series

Now wouldn't be a good time to start.

After falling to Clemson 6-3 in their opening game of the College World Series on Monday morning, the Sun Devils are now one loss away from elimination.

After getting rained out Sunday night, the Sun Devils looked flat and asleep in the early-morning tilt.

Starter Seth Blair was wild and ineffective, pitching only 4.1 innings while giving up five runs and throwing an astounding 110 pitches. Blair, who walked four and also had a balk, succumbed to his first loss of the season.

The defense behind him wasn't much better in the first few innings, as a few errors surely didn't help Blair's confidence.

And then there was the offense, where there supposedly wasn't a weak link throughout, which mustered only three runs.

Down 6-2 in the bottom of the seventh, the Sun Devils loaded the bases with nobody out. The chance was ripe to tack on a few runs and make this a close game for the final two innings.

Today just wasn't ASU's day, however, as they scratched out only one run while leaving two runners in scoring position.

With the loss, the Sun Devils now play South Carolina in a elimination game on Tuesday.
Lose and you go home, something this team obviously doesn't want to do. In the final year of the famed Rosenblatt Stadium, ASU wants to come out as winners.

Have hope Sun Devils fans, these guys aren't out of it yet. But they're definitely on the ropes.
