The Arizona Diamondbacks should take notes from the Boston Red Sox on how to win a baseball game.

The formula is a simple one: score early and often, then let the bullpen seal the deal.

The Red Sox followed this method to perfection Tuesday night as they defeated the Snakes 6-3 at Fenway Park.

Adam LaRoche gave the D-Backs an early 1-0 lead with an RBI single in the first inning. But the Red Sox jumped in front on David Ortiz's two-run home run in the bottom of the first off Ian Kennedy.

Kennedy showed flashes of brilliance as he struck out six batters through six innings, but was doomed by Ortiz's long ball and a rough third inning where the Red Sox scored three runs.

Trailing 5-1 in the top of the fourth, Justin Upton tried to ignite a D-Backs rally as he knocked a two-run double to score Miguel Montero and Chris Young and cut the lead to two.

But that was all the Snakes offense could muster as the Boston Bullpen slammed the door for the remainder of the game.

Hideki Okajima, Manny Delcarmen, Daniel Bard, and Jonathan Papelbon combined to pitch 3.1 scoreless innings while only giving up one hit.

Shockingly, the D-Backs bullpen wasn't too bad itself, but they didn't have to worry about blowing a lead.

Game two of this three game series is tomorrow at 4:10. For more information check out dbacks.com.
