Arizona Diamondbacks Offense Lacking in Franchise-Record 12th-Straight Road Loss

After scoring three runs in last night's 6-2 loss to the Boston Red Sox, the stagnant Snakes offense only mustered a pair of runs Wednesday night.

Quite simply, it wasn't enough to back D-Backs starter Rodrigo Lopez, who had his own troubles in the game.

Oh yeah, the loss now makes 12 road losses in a row, setting a franchise record.

Down by four in the ninth, the Snakes hoped for a rally as they had two men on with only one out. But Red Sox closer, Jonathan Papelbon, closed the door for the second straight night earning the save.

Lopez, meanwhile, got off to a shaky start in the first, giving up a two-run home run to former ASU star Dustin Pedroia.

The D-Backs battled back in the next inning to tie the game on Justin Upton's towering two-run long ball off Boston starter Jon Lester that probably hasn't landed yet.

Boston struck back with another pair of runs in the latter half of the third despite some stellar defense from the D-Backs. With runners on first and second and one out, Snakes center fielder Chris Young made a leaping catch at the wall to rob Victor Martinez of an extra base hit.

Looking like he would get out of the jam with only one out to go, Lopez faltered by giving up an RBI double to J.D. Drew. Another run scored on Adrain Beltre's infield single and the score was suddenly 4-2.

Looking to answer, the D-Backs loaded the bases with one out. But a clutch hit wasn't in the cards as Rusty Ryal struck out and Chris Snyder flied out to center to end the inning.

Lopez had a mixed bag of results through seven innings, retiring ten straight batters at one point. But the long ball doomed him again as Kevin Youkilis gave Boston a 6-2 lead on a two-run blast with two outs in the bottom of the seventh.

One positive for the D-Backs was a chance to look at newly acquired reliever Sam Demel, who made his major league debut. Demel was solid in his only inning of work, retiring the side in order.

The series finale is tomorrow at 3:10 p.m. Dan Haren (7-4, 4.61 ERA) gets the start against John Lackey (7-3, 4.64 ERA).
