With the 2010 season seemingly over for the last-place D-Backs, fans got a possible glimpse of the future Monday afternoon.

With the sixth overall pick in the 2010 Major League Baseball Draft, the Snakes selected Barret Loux, a right-handed pitcher from Texas A&M.

While the D-Backs definitely need any form of pitching they can get, the buzz around the baseball world is that selecting Loux was a bit of a reach.

Loux has quickly moved up experts' draft boards after a solid spring in College Station for the Aggies.

The junior has gone 11-2 with a 2.60 ERA this season while logging 104 innings.

While his stock may be on the rise, a few knowledgeable soucres in the baseball world disagreed with the pick. Here's one person's take on Loux, who was the second college pitcher taken despite being ranked 17th by baseballdraftreport.com.

The D-Backs and General Manager Josh Byrnes, however, feels confident about Loux (which is a good sign, right?).

We tried reaching the D-Backs scouting department to get their take on why they selected Louz ahead of other pitching prospects, but nobody was available.

Just for kicks and giggles, here are some other pitchers (all of whom are ranked higher than Loux by baseballdraftreport.com) that could have been selected by the D-Backs.

While Loux's stats this spring may be slightly better tha fellow pitchers Deck McGuire of Georgia Tech, Brandon Workman of Texas and Matt Harvey of North Carolina, those three were viewed as better prospects down the road than Loux.

Maybe Loux can help turn around the worst pitching staff in the majors in the next few years? One thing's for sure: He can't be much worse than the shiteous hurlers the D-Backs currently have in their arsenal, right?
