UPDATE: Phoenix Councilwoman Peggy Neely Announces Only That She Is Thinking About Running For Mayor

Categories: City Hall

Phoenix Councilwoman Peggy Neely stopped short of saying she was running for mayor this morning at a press conference, announcing instead that she was forming an exploratory committee.

Snooze.

Seriously, after her inauguration speech in January, everyone knew that she was destined to enter the mayor's race.

She now joins Councilman Claude Mattox in exploring whether there is enough community support to officially run for mayor.
In the meantime, since her announcement wasn't official, she can remain in office and begin raising money for a potential mayoral campaign.

When she does make it official, she will have to resign her council seat because state law prohibits elected officials to stay in office if they're running for a different elected post -- unless they are in the final year of their term.

We're just now waiting to see whether former Attorney General Grant Woods or deputy Attorney General (and former Phoenix councilman) Greg Stanton will explore running for mayor more publicly.

Exploratory committees anyone?
