Marc Bulger the Cardinals' Next Kurt Warner? That's the Rumor, Anyway
|Marc Bulger to the Cards?|
The word on the street is that the Cardinals' coaching staff hasn't been too thrilled with Leinart or Anderson this offseason and are looking to go a different direction when it comes to who will be the team's starter.
According to the Word From the Birds blog, the blog on the Cards' Web site, Bulger makes "so much more sense" for the team than another possibility: Former Raiders QB JaMarcus Russell.
The rumor is that the Cardinals hope to do with Bulger what they did with Kurt Warner and re-invent an older quarterback and give him a chance to revive his stalled career.
Bulger, who spent the last eight seasons with the Rams, is said to be familiar with the Cards' system, so it would be an easy transition for the 33-year-old QB.
While Bulger and Warner have some similarities -- namely age and the fact they both played for the Rams -- there's one minor difference the Cards may want to consider before going after Bulger: Bulger's had a passer rating of about 70 his last three seasons and has a career rating of 84.4. Warner rarely let his passer rating dip below 85 and retired with a career rating of 102.8.
Well, there's that, and then there's the fact that this season, the Redbirds are already spending about $10 million on two quarterbacks who would be backups should the team sign Bulger.
