Jan Brewer Signs Bill to Rate Schools With Letter Grades -- This Ought to Fix Everything!

• <p>I'm with Scared for my State. </p> <p>Diversion. Politicians and Administrators typically have conflicting agenda's with genuine education excellence. </p> <p>If the goal is to unify education excellence across the state, how is removing or censoring ethnic studies, and changing one ambiguous school rating system for another ambiguous rating system a step toward that goal? </p> <p>The answer is, obvious, it doesn't.</p> <p>Jan, you ignorant slut. </p>

Do they really think that changing one ambiguous rating scheme for another ambiguous rating scheme will some how benefit the education system?</p> <p>It appears to be a distraction from really addressing the education issues with a genuine focus on education excellence. For starters, it begins and ends with students. Administrators and politicians are Tweedle-dee and Tweedle-dum with a jaded agenda that might conflict with what's best for the students and the education system. </p> <p>If the goal is to unify education excellence across the state, is changing the school rating system at all helpful for that goal? </p> <p>Jan, you ignorant slut. </p>

• <p>Wow, this is BRILLIANT! Beat the liberals at their own game, it seems. Sounds like something the liberals would do... after all, you don't want the children of any particular school to have their self-esteem hurt by belonging to a school that *under performs*, or *under achieves*, right?</p> <p>So, if a school gets a C+ then it's just a letter and everyone can work at providing better schooling...but if its "under performing", what EXACTLY does that do except LABEL people.</p> <p>I love it. • <p>Brewer is just play to the people that are even more clueless than she is. The bad news is there are lots of really clueless people in this state.</p>

• <p>D+ or D- is a D.<br /> F+ is an F.<br /> C- is a C.</p> <p>A 1-5 number system would be fine in place of A-F. My high-school were rebels, they used 1-5 as the grading system. It directly corresponded with A-F system values.</p> <p>I don't know who created the system to calculate your 3.87 grade point average, or exactly how it's calculated, but as long as the criteria for the calculation is a known entity that's fine. If your 3.87 grade point were to be determined by vague phrases or maybe a vote by a panel of administrators who utter vague phrases, then it becomes meaningless. Those six panelists might say that you're a 3.87 but another panel might give you a 2.87 based on their assessment of your performance. </p>

• <p>Anonymous, conversely, is that D or F grade really a C-,D+,D-, or F+?</p> <p>The only way to distinguish would be using a set of 'words' as a matter of explanation. Then a lot of words might be used to identify causes and solutions to move from one letter grade to a better letter grade. However, given an A, or A+, no words need be spent, yes?</p> <p>The whole thing seems a waste of legislative time when it appears we really might have more important issues lingering out there. That said, however, I was rarely more than a strong B and occasional A student in high school, with a 3.87 gpa in college. But that's numbers, yes? </p> <p>Talk about a convolution of hysterical mishmash. The more I hear about our state Republican party the more amazed I am that some of our legislators have the ability to feed themselves.</p>

• <p>This is not pointless. you all may not agree with or like the point, but there is one. A phrase like "under-performing" is meaningless. It's a way to hide the true poor performance of a school. What is under-performing? Is it performance at one percentage point below the average-performing threshold, or is it the dismal school with a 25% graduation rate? It's both, and therefore it's meaningless.</p> <p>If a school gets a D or an F, we all know what that means. Any further "explanation" would only be a set of excuses for the poor grade. If excuses for poor performance were the solution for our troubled school systems, we'd have fixed this problem decades ago.</p>
