Criss Angel's Lake Havasu Stunt Goes Off Without a Hitch; Imagine That

Criss Angel, the over-dramatic, often-shirtless "magician" and star of A&E's Criss Angel Mindfreak, performed a "death-defying" stunt in Lake Havasu on Saturday, and, as we predicted last week, nothing too cool happened and Angel's still alive -- despite ruthlessly pimping the danger element of the stunt.

As we said last week, we've seen Angel's show -- nothing ever seems to go wrong, despite the host's over-the-top hyping of the stunts as "death-defying."

That was once again the case in Saturday's gimmick, and the crowd, apparently, wasn't too happy about it.

Angel was shackled, chained, handcuffed, tied in rope, and then lowered into the Colorado River near the London Bridge in Lake Havasu City.

The stunt was originally performed in England by legendary magic man Harry Houdini and the goal, obviously, is to break free from the restraints and not drown.

Angel emerged from the river -- unchained -- after about four minutes of submersion.

A local newspaper, Lake Havasu's News-Herald, as well as about 5,000 spectators -- many likely to have been secretly hoping for the worst -- witnessed the stunt.

Here's what a few of the spectators had to say, according to the News-Herald:

"I'm glad we didn't come down here at 9 or 10 a.m. just for that," said one woman after the stunt. "It was not worth it, and we're still complaining. [We] couldn't see anything."

"Overrated," said another. "Really? This is it?"

"I wish it would have been a little faster," said another.

Apparently, people showed up hours in advance of the advertised, noon start-time, and Angel didn't hit the water until about 3 p.m.

Then, a short four minutes later, it was over.

If you missed all the (ahem) action on Saturday, not to worry -- the stunt (as well as a 10-minute highlight reel of Lake Havasu City's finer points) will be featured on Angel's show, Mindfreak, in mid-July.
