​A 94-year-old Mexican woman was arrested at the border near Nogales for allegedly trying to smuggle almost 11 pounds of marijuana into Arizona. According to authorities, the woman said she was crossing the border for a day of shopping, but agents became suspicious and found bundles of pot taped from her torso to her legs. Agents confiscated the marijuana, which has an estimated street value of $5,250, and turned over the woman to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials...Ryan Coleman, owner of Angel Tattoo, filed a lawsuit against the city of Mesa after his business application was rejected. The suit alleges that the city denied Coleman's application without any proof that his tattoo shop would be detrimental to the neighborhood. A spokesman for the city said it will respond to the suit within 20 days after formally being served...Pinal County deputies say they've caught an inmate who escaped from the Graham County Jail on Tuesday. Richie Pablo Garcia was being held for numerous charges when he scaled a razor-lined wall and fence to escape. Authorities later found him hiding out with his girlfriend and their children...

​The controversial 2 percent Phoenix food tax goes into effect today. The tax is meant to help close the city's budget deficit and means shoppers at any grocery store in Phoenix will now pay $2 more per $100 spent on food...After eight years, controversial football coach Bernie Busken has returned to the Valley. Busken, who will probably coach at Basha High School in Chandler, was fired by Mountain View High School in 2002 amid allegations he abused his players and made them participate in hazing rituals. Basha High Principal Ken James says he wouldn't have hired Busken if he didn't trust him...Vantage West Credit Union in Tucson will take over First Edition Community Credit Union, a 58-year-old institution established to serve the communications industry. In the last two years, the FECCU lost nearly $1.8 million, and about 90 percent of its members agreed to the merger with Vantage West. Vantage West has more than $1.1 billion in assets and is the largest credit union in Southern Arizona.
