John McCain Calls for National Guard to Defend Border in Wake of Rancher's Death

• <p> No matter how often a pitcher goes to the water it is broken in the end. </p>

• <p>If McCain wanted this country safe, he would be working toward taking away the incentives that keep illegal aliens coming to this country. They get free medical care by using our emergency rooms as primary care doctors, they come here pregnant so their children will be American citizens and be entitled to WIC, EBT (food stamps), section 8 housing, free education, etc. Some use ITIN's or stolen SS card to obtain jobs and although taxes are taken out, they usually claim so many Dependants that they get back far more than they paid in.<br /> Many work for cash and pay no taxes or never file their 1099. Some grow pot in our National forests, some set up meth houses, some belong to gangs like MS13, some run prostitution houses, some smuggle more illegal aliens in while other smuggle in drugs. Still, others kidnap people to hold for ransom. These are just a few of those hard working illegal aliens that do "jobs Americans won't do". <br /> Everything I have mentioned is a violation of the laws in this country. What we need is our immigration laws enforced!</p>

• <p>John McCain does not support amnesty and believes that we should not reward lawbreakers. Any measure designed to fix the broken immigration system must deal with the undocumented population, and as we all know, this is very difficult challenge that attracts a wide range of diverse views and opinions. We need a practical solution for dealing with undocumented immigrants currently living and working in our country and that solution must be carried out in a manner that fosters the social, economic, and security interest of the United States. Before you post, know your facts. McCain has always wanted our state safe!<br /> </p>

• <p>A quick fix for an ongoing problem that did not start with the death of Bob Krentz. Does McCain also plan to place National Guard in our National forests to stop the illegal aliens from farming pot there? Or in the cities like Atlanta to stop the illegal gang activity? Does he plan to push for E-Verify to help insure that employers hire American citizens?<br /> Wait, I forgot, he wants to give them all amnesty!</p>

• <p>McCain is only accidentally correct to call for troops. He does that some times, as he wanders about in a haze of anger and sour grapes. Senator Misled flips and flops and flails and fails his way to becoming Arizona's latest laughing stock politician. I will not vote for him again, I had enough with the last election he went crazy in.</p> <p>Still, comprehensive immigration reform is needed. But what the hell good would that do without a vast upgrade in border security? Reagan gave out actual amnesty, not just an "earn your way" approach, thinking it would be a permanent fix. But he ignored border security and the huge problem we have today is the result.</p> <p>All these incremental approaches we have been doing are utter failures. The truth is displayed in the Pima County Morgue, all those dead women and child and some men found out in the deserts. The failure is shown in the war within Mexico, all those murdered cops, city officials, army leaders and troops, common people. The failure is seen in the USA where billions of dollars in drugs still come in, get sold to Americans and pushed upon American children.</p> <p>Yes, we need troops on the border. Not a token amount but thousands, and not just to patrol though that would be a major task. We need the manpower to greatly increase vehicle and cargo inspections. We need a great many more patrols. We need rules of engagement that does not have them running away when confronted.</p> <p>At the same time we need to be demanding that Mexico do the same along its side and at its ports. The problem has two sources, the criminals in Mexico and the demand in the USA. Both sides have National Security reasons to deploy troops on the border in cooperation with each other.</p> <p>I do believe in comprehensive reform. I believe that illegal aliens should be given the option of confessing their crimes (most of which are misdemeanors), paying a fine or being assigned community service and then being allowed to work towards citizenship. Those that decline to do so I have zero complaint with finding them and deporting them.</p> <p>I believe in the idea of the Dream Act for the kids brought here by no fault of their own. Many do not even speak Spanish, they find out they are not citizens only when their parents status is accidentally revealed. We should punish the parents, not the children. Punishing children for the crimes of adults is un-American as far as I am concerned. </p> <p>But no potential reforms hold any meaning if the source of the troubles is not addressed. That source is the absurdly porous border, the drug flow north, the human smuggling flowing north, the criminal gangs flowing north, the guns and money flowing south!</p> <p>Without a massive upgrade to security and inspections along the border and at ports of entry, anything else we do is a bad joke.</p> <p>A bad joke revealed for its many wrongs in the way of dead bodies.</p> <p>Lots and lots of dead bodies.<br /> </p>

• <p>I don't know if deploying the National Guard without them giving them the right to return fire when they're under fire by suspected criminal aliens. The last time the Guard was there, they could not return fire when they were under fire. Instead, they had to retreat due to the provisions given to them under the Bush administration that forbade them from engaging the enemy from South of the border. They need to change the Bush's policies by granting the NG the right to return enemy fire.</p>

• <p>Roro, those 'citizen soldiers' you refer to all know there is a chance they may be counted on at any time to be deployed. That's the chance they take when they accept the 'weekend' job. </p>

• <p>Roro - the last time they deployed the AZ ARNG to the border - it was essentially staffed with volunteers. BTW - I too am an Active Duty veteran as well as a veteran of the Arizona Army National Guard. </p>

• <p>Military solutions to law enforcement problems more often than not escalate those problems.</p>

• <p>Deploying the National Guard to the Mexican border is a simplistic "fix" for a complex problem. Constantly deploying the National Guard along the border with Mexico could be counter-productive. The constant disruption of the family life (and finances) of our Citizen Soldiers along with the constant disruptions in the work force of businesses could make Guard members less likely to remain in the Guard as well as put an undue strain on employers who are supposed to keep the Guardsman's job available for when he returns. It could also adversely affect recruitment for the Guard. It's OK to be "Patriotic", but when the stability of your family and prime source of employment are at risk, one has to make some hard decisions. I served 20+ years on active military duty, but the military was my job and my family and I pretty much knew , barring the outbreak of a war, what was going down and had a rough idea of my schedule of deployments was.</p>
