A spectator was killed Sunday at the National Hod Rod Association (NHRA) nationals at Firebird International Raceway in the Gila Indian River Community. Driver Antron Brown lost control of his car, and a rear tire blew out and flew into the stands, striking a female spectator. The name of the woman, who died after he was airlifted to Good Samaritan Medical Center, has not been released...
Johnathan Krieger, the Apache Junction high school teacher accused of engaging in sexual conduct with a 16-year-old, was in a local band with several teenagers. Krieger apparently sang for the band, called Tiger Eyes, which describes its music as "Chinese traditional hard-core rap." On his MySpace page, Krieger says the band gave him the opportunity to grow closer to his students...
Four Phoenix men will get to be "SWAT cops for a day" after making a significant donation to the East Valley Boys & Girls Club's "Bid for Kids" fundraiser. The four men are from a non-profit organization called Chandler Compadres. As part of their winning package, they'll spend a day with the Phoenix SWAT team, learning firearms and tactical training and working with police K-9s.
