"The maverick"
A day after former Congressman J.D. Hayworth officially kicked off his campaign to unseat Senator John McCain as the GOP's candidate for U.S. senator, "The Maverick" has received an outpouring of support from 31 Arizona mayors.

Hayworth, on the other hand, has the endorsement of Sheriff Joe Arpaio.

McCain picked up the endorsements of the majority of the Valley's influential mayors, including those of Phoenix Mayor Phil Gordon, Tempe Mayor Hugh Hallman, Glendale Mayor Elaine Scruggs, Scottsdale Mayor Jim Lane, Peoria Mayor Bob Barrett, and Mesa Mayor Scott Smith.

Mayors aren't the only ones jumping on the McCain train. Arizona's senior senator also has the support of Senator Jon Kyl and Arizona Congressmen, Jeff Flake, John Shadegg, and Trent Franks.

Recent polls showi McCain in front of Hayworth by a substantial margin, too.

According to the latest Rasmussen poll, McCain leads Hayworth by 22 percentage points among likely Arizona GOP primary voters.

As the McCain/Hayworth primary is being hyped as the primary to end all primaries, we have a feeling that when the dust settles, we can expect six more years of straight talk.
