Arizona Senator Jon Kyl isn't letting Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (pictured above) get away with racially charged comments he made about Barack Obama during the 2008 presidential campaign.

According to the recently released book Game Change, written about the 2008 presidential campaign by political reporters John Heilemann and Mark Halperin, Reid basically said Obama was the perfect black candidate because of his "light skin" and lack of "negro dialect."

Not exactly a Michael Richards' N-bomb-dropping rant but certainly one of the stupider things to come out of the mouth of a politician in recent years.

Reid has already apologized for the comments and made the rounds kissing the asses of black leaders such as Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton, but that's not gonna cut it for Jon Kyl, who says Reid needs to resign.

Kyl went on Fox News yesterday and compared the comments by Reid to comments made by former Mississippi Senator Trent Lott after the death of segregationist U.S. Senator Strom Thurmond.

"When Strom Thurmond ran for president, we voted for him. We're proud of it. And if the rest of the country had followed our lead, we wouldn't have had all these problems over the years, either," Lott said at a birthday party for Thurmond back in 2002.

Thurmond had run for president in 1948 on a segregationist campaign platform, and those "problems" Lott referred to were interpreted by some as the civil rights movement.

"Whether Trent Lott should have resigned, I think, is a great matter. ... We should be reflecting on that now," Kyl tells Fox News. "If he should resign [which he did], then Harry Reid should."
