A Valley high school teacher is on leave after taking several students to Hooters. The teacher, Mary Segall, is the choir director at Paradise Valley High School. She took about 40 students to lunch at Hooters last week after a choir performance at the Arizona Center, saying it was the only eatery that could accommodate such a large group. But school administrators believe there were other, more appropriate, options...Jerry Bustamante, the CEO of the Chandler Chamber of Commerce, resigned Wednesday. In a statement, Bustamante suggested he would spend more time with his family in Tucson. Bustamante had held his position since May 2008. The chamber's Executive Committee of the Board of Directors will handle Bustamante's duties until a permanent replacement is found...The NCAA has accused Arizona State University of recruiting violations in its baseball program. The "notice of allegations" was discovered in November, just before the resignation of ASU baseball Coach Pat Murphy. The allegations are preliminary, and ASU has several months to respond. ASU's case will go before the NCAA in June, and if found guilty of violations, ASU could be hit with heavy sanctions...

The family of Jacob William Schlamann, who died in a Phoenix hospital three days after a May 23 car crash, is suing the city of Yuma for $10 million. In the claim, the family alleges that Yuma fire paramedics declared Schlamann dead at the scene and that their decision to not immediately treat him led to his death...Police in Sierra Vista seized 27 dogs Tuesday suspected of suffering from neglect. A detective said the living conditions at the residence where the dogs were recovered were questionable for both people and animals, and an investigation is ongoing. So far, no charges have been filed...Three men broke into a Chandler mansion and were arrested after tripping an alarm. Near Kyrene and Ray roads, the mansion is known for its underground dungeon, secret passageways, and private lake. The home, currently bank-owned, has been empty since going up for auction in September.
