There's a cow killer on the loose, and the Humane Society of the United States is offering $2,500 to bring the culprit to justice.

The Arizona Game and Fish Department and the Humane Society are looking for the person responsible for murdering a cow at the privately owned Sierra Bonita Ranch about 100 miles northeast of Tucson.

The cow, according to AGFD officials, was shot in the head sometime between November 11 and November 13. Its carcass was found on a dirt road near the Martin Ranch section of the property.

AGFD officials say killings like this could potentially ruin things for hunters.

"This is a crime, not the act of a hunter or sportsman. Incidents like this complicate our efforts to ensure access to hunting areas through private lands," Raul Vega, Tucson Game and Fish's acting regional supervisor, tells the Tucson Citizen.

Anyone with any information about the cow killer is asked to call AGFD's Operation Game Thief Hotline at (800) 352-0700.
