Chandler police announced today that a man accused of sexually abusing his own step granddaughter has been indicted on various child molestation charges.

Richard Michael Scott, a 66-year-old former Chandler resident, was arrested on October 8, after police say he sexually abused his step granddaughter and two of her friends.

According to Chandler police, the abuse went on for at least eight years and started when the girl was 4-years-old.

Police found out about the abuse when the girl told a friend, who in turn told her parents, who called police.

After the girl came forward about the abuse, two of her friends claimed that Scott abused them as well.

Scott was arrested and taken to the Maricopa County Jail and charged with four counts of sexual conduct with a minor, one count of attempted child molestation, two counts of child molestation, and two counts of sex abuse.
