Seventeen-Year-Old Jewel Thief Turns Himself In To Peoria Police
|Avery Lowe is suspected of robbing nearly $1 million worth of jewelery from a Peoria store.|
Avery Lowe robbed the London Gold Jewelry Store at 7311 W. Bell Road for an estimated $1 million in retail goods, according to police.
Lowe must be one of the only people on the planet who wouldn't automatically assume that a jewelery store would have security cameras, and two days later his mug was broadcast across the Valley on local news stations.
The footage also shows him leaving the store in a yellow car.
Here's a quick tip for future felons: When you are committing a crime, where your probably going to be on some sort of surveillance video, wear a mask, and don't drive a flashy yellow car. Find yourself a nice, generic, neutrally colored Honda Civic with no distinguishing characteristics, and make the mayhem a little less traceable.
Within two days of the surveillance footage airing, calls began coming in to police.
"We received three calls [from] people that identified the suspect," says Peoria Police Officer Mike Tellef. "At least one of them was a friend of his, too."
Police then tracked down the little rascal, and put him in a lineup, where he was identified by a store employee as the person who used a small black handgun to gank the loot.
After the lineup, Tellef says police contacted the kids family, and mommy brought her delinquent descendant into the station.
Only about $73,000 of the estimated $1 million worth of jewelry has been recovered so far.
He's being detained at the Maricopa County Juvenile Court Center on charges of armed robbery, aggravated assault and trafficking in stolen property.
