Police arrested 21-year-old Nicholas Renner in connection with the murder of 42-year-old Alberto Gonzales
About 10 a.m. Friday, police responded to what they initially thought was an attempted suicide at a unit of a residential community at 6721 East McDowell Road.

A man was found shot in the chest, and according to police reports, in "grave" shape.

The man, 42-year-old Alberto Gonzales, was alive when police got to the scene, but later died from trauma to his chest.

Police must have assumed that if Gonzales were going to kill himself, there were probably better ways than to shoot himself in the chest, and began investigating the incident as a murder.

Later in the day, cops linked physical evidence found at the crime scene to 21-year-old Nicholas A. Renner, and arrested him Friday at 7474 E. Earll Drive on drug-related charges and outstanding warrants.

Police say the investigation is still "very active," and are still looking into motive and whether  anyone else was involved.

Police are urging anyone with any information about the incident to contact authorities.
