Border Patrol agents seized nearly 1200 pounds of marijuana from a truck near Yuma. Agents say they spotted the vehicle using night vision equipment, and used deflation devices to cripple the truck's tires. The driver and passenger fled on foot, leaving behind their haul, which has an estimated street value of almost a million dollars...A man is dead and his son is in critical condition after their small plane crashed in the mountains south of Flagstaff. A Coconino County Sheriff's spokesman says they received a call that the plane had gone down and the pilot was injured. Authorities found the plane near Stoneman Lake...An environmental group called The Western Watersheds Project filed a lawsuit last week to stop a traditional sheep drive from going through the Tonto Forest on its way to the southeast Valley. The drive includes about 4,000 sheep, which the group says carry diseases that can be deadly to bighorn sheep in the area...The Arena Football League, about to enter its 23rd season, may file Chapter 7 bankruptcy, possibly leaving the Arizona Rattlers out of work. The Rattlers won the title in 1994 and 1997...A jeep riddled with bullet holes was found in a canal near Indian Springs Road and El Mirage. The vehicle was empty. The jeep's owner says he loaned it to a friend, who says someone must have stolen the jeep...Mesa Unified School District says that Red Mountain Ranch elementary school, which saw a reduction in students after a mold problem, has passed air quality tests. Classes will begin as scheduled, on August 12.
