Sheriff's Internal Affairs Commander, Captain Jim "Take These Papers From My Hand" Miller Retires

Miller may have been a fine law officer, but we'll always remember him as the guy who tried to goad us into getting arrested during a little squabble over public records last summer at Phoenix City Hall.

After being told by sheriff's officials we could not touch papers in a box of public records that did not belong to the Sheriff's Office, Miller decided to test us, waving some documents at us and sneering, "Take these papers from my hand!" Sometimes we wonder what would have happened had we done just that, but only Miller knows for sure.

Miller then made our year with an amusing memo he later typed up for his superiors that backed up our story -- though from his own, pompous point of view:

I then took a document and held it in front of him and said "Take it." I hoped that he would then understand that it would be inappropriate to simply grab something out of an individual's hand, even if the item was a public document. When he didn't take the document I felt that I had attained at least a stale mate with him.

Miller's report goes on to say,

My staff and I were humiliated and subjected to unnecessary badgering from New Times reporter Stern for simply doing our job.

What were we "badgering" them about again? Our right to look at public records that didn't belong to them. Oh, yeah, and also the hypocritical fact that they were digitally scanning in the Phoenix documents depite their own agency's anti-scanning policy for public records.

As mentioned, Miller might have had a great career. But for us, first impressions of Miller are the lasting ones.

waiversalot seems to have inside knowledge. I am just wondering out loud here (figuratively, of course). Do you suppose Mr. Miller has retired to save his pension? It could be that he is seeing the DOJ investigators doing their job and knows it won't be long until heads roll. His included. So, if he retires now and wraps his pension it can't be taken away since he can't be fired from a job he's retired from. Conjecture, yes. Or maybe he has beach house someplace he's headed for.
With Miller gone this leaves the door open for Mr. Fox to enter. Watch for him to be next in command of Internal Investigations. From what I can tell I don't know why they even bother with the facade. The MCSO sheriff is mentally ill.
lol, good, dont let the door hit you on the way out asshole! Marciopa county just got a little safer now that the sheriffs cover up man is gone. In case you didnt know, this schlep rock was in charge of "internal investigations"..which is comical at best to say they even have considering they always clear their employees of any wrongdoing when they say, kill inmates. PS ray, i wasnt there but you were..and i heard through the grapevine that the deputies present at city hall when this schlep rock was insiting you, were actually DO's and not actual deputies..this true? His report also states "DO (whatever their names are)"..i dont know about you, but id be interested to know why a couple of jail guards are even participating in an internal investigation of racial profiling by a deputy, much less be the ones collecting evidence like its a joke and they cant have real detectives running such investigations..that said, is it any wonder why they always say they dont do anything wrong, they dont even take them seriously....
They told him to retire, this is how they're trying to protect themselves from having him testify on shit. He's so involved in the SCA and the Honduran scandals. He needs to be deposed and with a lie detector device on his involvement on what he knows as well as some one needs to pull his emails and records on cell phones as well - before they purge them !!!
Although, Miller is rarely mentioned in the New Times. But it is apparent by judging from his bad attitude, that he himself is also infected with arpaio's disease. Its a mental affliction that affects cops, rendering them to believe that they are above the law. Even if certain policies are in place to prevent such unlawlessness within law enforcement--i.e. the anti-scanning policy for example, where Stern implied that Miller was "digitally scanning documents". It is very hypocritical at best. And because they have this mental infection, I wouldn't be surprised that if they shall return to a private citizenery lifestyle. There's is no doubt that they would retort to criminal activivty. Because as Sheriffs, they got away with murder, they feel that they can away with murder as private citizens.
Since there's clearly something in the water at MCSO to make them all ass-clowns, I hope he recovers quickly and looses his ass-clown-itis.
Wasn't Miller retired when he had the MCSO clown show and vacation squad visit him in Honduras? Wasn't he the one that noted the Honduran cops needed help filling out car accident reports?
