Tim Nelson Joins AG's Office as Chief Deputy Attorney General

Categories: News

Another high-profile hire for Arizona Attorney General Terry Goddard: He's just made Tim Nelson (pictured), former candidate for Maricopa County Attorney, his chief deputy.

Goddard's office sent a news release out about this a few minutes ago. No doubt, Chewie over at Sonoran Alliance is banging out another missive about Goddard's tendency to bring political types into his sphere. Goddard hired Nelson's Democratic opponent in the county attorney race, Gerald Richard, back in February. A month before that, he plucked Greg Stanton off the Phoenix City Council and made him a lobbyist.

Nelson's new job "marks his return to the Attorney General's Office's management team. From 2000-2003, he served as Special Counsel to then-Attorney General Janet Napolitano," says the AG's office.

Nelson will become Goddard's top manager in the deal, overseeing the office's legal department, which includes both criminal and civil law enforcement.

And he'll help with Goddard's next campaign -- or so we imagine.
