Phoenix Coyotes Host Open House Thursday; Bankruptcy Judge Calls Out Local Fans

The Phoenix Coyotes ice hockey team is staying in Glendale -- for now. On June 15, U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Redfield T. Baum ruled that a June 29 deadline on Canadian Jim Balsillie's bid to buy the team and move it to Canada was not workable. But Baum didn't set auction rules, either, which means there's still a possibility Balsillie could buy the team, although the NHL hopes to find a local buyer.

Judge Baum mentioned at the June 15 hearing that should he rule in favor of the NHL, Phoenix hockey fans will need to show they support the Coyotes and want to keep them here.

To wit, the Coyotes will be holding a free open house from 6 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, June 25 at Jobing.com Arena in Glendale. Players Peter Mueller, Mikkel Boedker, Viktor Tikhonov, and Keith Yandle will be there to meet and mingle with fans, along with members of the Coyotes front office staff and local radio and television personalities.

The team and local groups like the Save the Coyotes Coalition are asking all hockey fans to show up, bring their friends, and buy some game or season tickets. For more information, visit coyotes.nhl.com
