ASU Sun Devils Live to See Another Day at College World Series

Things looked mighty bleak midway through Arizona State's baseball game against North Carolina yesterday afternoon. Then, down 4-0 in an elimination game at Omaha's Rosenblatt Stadium, the Sun Devils loaded the bases for previously unsung outfielder Kole Calhoun.

Calhoun deposited a pitch into the right-field bleachers to tie the game, and later smashed a double into the gap to give ASU a lead it never relinquished en route to a 12-5 win.

Calhoun, who went to high school out in Buckeye, wasn't selected in the recent professional baseball draft. But he definitely has been showcasing his abilities at the College World Series.

The Devils and their head coach Pat Murphy (pictured), may need more heroics from the red-headed ball smasher later today when they face top-seeded Texas in another elimination game. The game will be on ESPN2 starting at 4 p.m. our time.

Texas is in the driver's seat after its 10-6 win over ASU earlier this week. To advance to the championship round, ASU will have to be the Longhorns today and tomorrow, an awfully tall order.

But who knows?
