It was a close shave for two people shot and wounded last night in Mesa barber shop.

Cops say a guy walked into Horacio Styles, 724 E. University, just after 9 p.m. -- when the shop usually closes. He "exchanged words with employees and customers." Then he pulled out a handgun and began firing at a man and woman. Police spokesman and helicopter pilot Steve Berry tells us at least three people were in the shop at the time, maybe as many as seven.

Both victims will survive, apparently, though the man is in critical but "stable" condition, police say. The suspect is still on the loose. Police released this description of the assailant:

The suspect was described as a black male 20-25 years old, 5'6-5'8, 160-180 pounds. He had a "fade" type haircut with a ponytail/braid on the back. He was last seen wearing all dark clothing.

Police are still investigating and aren't sure what the suspect's motive was or if he knew the victims.

We're guessing the shooter's problem was more than just a bad haircut.

UPDATE: Police released the identities of the two victims. One was Iran Horacio Lares, the 31-year-old owner of the shop. The other is an 18-year-old woman.
