UPDATE: Doug Grant Sentencing Postponed Until Further Notice

Doug Grant, the onetime Phoenix Suns nutritionist convicted last month of manslaughter was scheduled to be sentenced Friday, May 1.

But Vincent Funari, the able public information officer for the Maricopa County Superior Court, just sent out an e-mail to announce that Grant's sentencing has been postponed until further notice because the defense team "submitted a lengthy mitigation package for the judge [Meg Mahoney] to review."

Grant faces up to 12 1/2 years in prison when Mahoney does sentence him. A jury convicted him of manslaughter in the 2001 death of his wife, Faylene, who died after being submerged in a bathtub at the couple's Gilbert home. (Those are the Grants in the photo, in Las Vegas at their second wedding just two months before Faylene's tragic death).

Doug Grant has been in custody since the panel returned its verdict.

Wow. Juror said they had a gut feeling. That is scary. Sounds like a juror in Saudi Arabia. I mean i guess if i was on Tv as a juror i might have thought i would have to give this guy something. And to the person above she did mention suicide in her journal.
I just saw this story on CBS and felt compelled to respond. Firstly we left Mesa years back due to the crime that no one was doing anything about. What a joke !! We we're not Arizona transplants, or snow birds.Our Daughter was born in Mesa and I always thought we would never leave but I get on my knees and thank God we did !! One of the jurors said "I had a GUT FEELING" PLEASE someone show where it talks about gut feelings in the juror instructions !!! The Law means something to me good or bad it is the law, you don't like it CHANGE it.
You obviously DON'T KNOW or GET the charges, conviction, and consequences for Doug's actions. Sad to say, but I call it how it is... YOU ARE A CLUELESS, HOPELESS Goof, who ought to stop publically calling Faye suicidal. Did you NOT hear the jury say that suicide was NEVER even a thought in their minds (never even discussed!!), that says it all... YOU slandering a dead woman's name is DISPICABLE!!
Oh PLEASE! Are you able to tend to your loved ones 24/7? I know that I'm not. If she decided to take 5 ambien pills, do you really think she told him. He may have been a nutritionist, but that doesn't make him an expert on the effects of prescription pills. He may have known she had taken one, sometime during the night. But how was he to know that she had taken all of them just before getting into the bath. We are each responsible for our own actions. We have free agency and are able to make choices. We can't hold anyone else responsible because they didn't act in the way we might THINK they should. That is ridiculous! If my spouse decided to take pills and not tell me and were to die, I would not blame myself. We can only be responsible for each other to a point. He may not have called 911 because he thought that Chad could help her and he would be able to keep secret the fact that she may have been trying to commit suicide. He may have thought that he was protecting her honor. Has anyone thought of that? Everyone is so quick to judge him as a possible murderer. But it is possible that she was trying to commit suicide, when she fell off the cliff and when she took all the pills and got in the tub. There wasn't any evidence that she struggled in any way. I know in my heart that Doug did not kill his wife and he is NOT to blame for her death. This is truly a case of misjustice! Just the fact that it took them 4 years to arrest him is proof enough for me!
I THINK THE MANSLAUGHTER IS A GOOD CALL. EVEN IF DOUG IS NOT GUILTY OF MURDERING FAYLENE, HE SHOULD HAVE TAKEN BETTER CARE OF HER. HE WOULD NOT LET ANYONE ELSE DO IT. AT LEAST I COULD NEVER GET THROUGH. EVEN JENNA COULD NOT GET THROUGH THE DOOR. SO IN MY ESTIMATION HE TOOK IT UPON HIMSELF TO WATCH OUT FOR FAYLENE AND HE DID A PITIFUL JOB. YOU DON'T GIVE SOMEONE A BUNCH OF PAIN AND SLEEPING PILLS AND THEN LET THEM SIT IN A BATHTUB WITHOUT CONSTANT SUPERVISION. THERE IS NO DENYING IT, HE HAD SOLE RESPONSIBILITY FOR WHAT HAPPENED TO HIS WIFE WHILE IN HIS CARE. HOW CAN YOU EVEN QUESTION JUDGE MAHONEY'S JUDGEMENT CALL? WHAT ELSE IS SHE SUPPOSED TO THINK?
Well, hopefully the judge will get over her hate for Doug and come back with a good decision on his sentencing. I think each year he was on house arrest should be counted for 1 year served. It isn't like he was able to enjoy life for the last 4 years. The fact that the judge had him taken into custody stating that he WOULD be serving time just shows you that she made her decision long ago.
