Animal rights activists plan to march at a Chandler medical-testing lab plan on Sunday behind a procession of beagles.

A group organized by Citizens Against Covance will walk about a half-mile on Gilbert Road just north of Germann Road to a spot near the Covance facility. As a statement against the company, which conducts tests of products on animals, the group -- expected to number almost 200 -- will walk a bunch of rescued beagles. The group's director, Janice McClellan, says she doesn't know how many dogs will participate, but she's hoping to see two or three dozen.

The beagles represent "the millions of Beagles bred, sold, experimented upon, and killed by Covance," an announcement by the group states. McClellan says the group is hoping to make an emotion impact -- people tend to find testing on man's best friend even more appalling than testing on primates. Few folks, apparently, like to imagine Snoopy blinded by chemical sprays.
