Miguel Montero's mammoth blast in the fifth was the difference maker for the Diamondbacks.

Six runs in a single baseball game isn't exactly an offensive blitzkrieg, but when you're the Arizona Diamondbacks, a half-dozen revolutions around the base path is huge. Especially considering that the team had only managed to cough up two stinking runs in the past 31 frames.

It's also huge when six runs are good enough to chalk up a much-needed victory, which the struggling D-Backs did during their 6-3 victory over the Colorado Rockies Monday night. In front of a half-filled Chase Field, Arizona (5-8) began another nine-game homestand with arguably its most complete performance of the '09 season. Highlighted by another stellar performance by a starter pitcher - this time by Jon Garland, who gave up one earned in 6.2 innings of work - the D-Backs used ten overall hits and a four-run fifth inning to top their NL West foe, who dropped to 4-8.

With the score tied at one apiece going into the bottom half of the fourth, third baseman Mark Reynolds, who had already launched a solo shot to left in the second inning off of losing pitcher Jason Marquis (2-1), doubled home Chad Tracy. The hot bats continued in the fifth when catcher Miguel Montero went yah-yah for a three-run homer to deep right center that scored Tracy and Chris Young. That was plenty of support for Garland (2-1), Scott Schoeneweis, Tony Pena (who yielded the Rockies' third and final run), and closer Chad Qualls, who earned his third save of the young season.

Arizona and Colorado will square off once again at Chase Field Tuesday night beginning at 6:40 p.m. Scheduled starters are the D-Backs' Yusmeiro Petit (0-1, 7.71) and the Rockies' Franklin Morales (1-0, 1.50). TV: FSN-AZ. Radio: KTAR-AM 620. Go to www.dbacks.com.
