In a news release
announcing tomorrow's planned immigrant sweeps in the west Valley, Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio blames the media for a slate of unsolved homicides:
"This area is a hotbed of human smuggling traffic much of which has bred violence," Arpaio says. "The local news media has never given the correct proportional coverage of these murders. Had it done so, these homicides might have been solved by now."
Yet the news release was sent only to a select few in the media -- New Times
obtained it only by other means. Despite being under court order to post his news releases on his Web site
when he sends them to his favored bunch, this information -- so important to Arpaio, supposedly -- is nowhere to be found on the site.
So what does Arpaio think is so important that it should be posted on his taxpayer-funded Web site for everyone to see? Scroll down to find out:
This is what Arpaio's site had on its home page as of about 6 p.m. See how the Conan thing is the featured piece of propaganda? If you then click to see the other media releases, this is all you get:
