Sheriff Joe Arpaio couldn't make a misdemeanor case against Jarrett Maupin II stick, but Arpaio says another agency's considering more serious charges against the Phoenix Union High School Board District member and former mayoral candidate.

This according to a Arizona Republic story today. We couldn't get Arpaio on the phone, but really, we're not too upset about the scoop. The story's that dirty.
You see, this one involves serious, salacious accusations against a sitting mayor that no one really wants to discuss. Not the Republic, and not New Times -- because no evidence has ever been offered to prove what Maupin told us and other media. (You can get the police report yourself if you're that curious).

Of course, Arpaio's bluster about the other agency he won't name -- probably the FBI -- may just be a face-saving move after local prosecutors shot down his case.

Maupin better hope so. -- Ray Stern
