Icing on Cupcake: Phoenix Suns Take on 3-28 Okie Thunder Tonight

What's a surefire cure for depression? For the Phoenix Suns -- losers of a brutally heartbreaking game on Christmas Day to the San Antonio Spurs -- a cupcake; namely, the Oklahoma City Thunder.

See, the b-ball Okies are way soft in the win column (just three), good for an NBA-worse .097 win-loss percentage. The Thunder are so bad at the moment that they are trailing the Minnesota Timberwolves, who recently lost 13 straight, for the league's worst record.

This is a good thing for the Suns, who may be nursing a depression hangover following the Spurs loss. But they can't take the Thunder lightly, considering that they were challenged on November 25 during a 99-98 squeaker.

So far, new head coach Scott Brooks, who took over for the canned P.J. Carlesimo in mid-November, hasn't been able to turn the team around. However, young stars Kevin Durant (23.6 points per game) and Russell Westbrook are improving week-to-week while fifth-year pro Nick Collison continues to lead the team in rebounds and blocks despite suffering a broken left thumb several games ago.

The Suns try to get over their emo when they take on the Thunder at Oklahoma City's Ford Center. Tip-off's at 6 p.m. tonight. Go to www.nba.com/suns. Local TV: My45. Radio: KTAR-AM 620. -- Steve Jansen
