Peoria's Most Wanted

Thu Jul 03, 2008 at 05:50:16 PM

By Jonathan McNamara

In a move that's sure to bring a smile to John Walsh's trademark serious mug, the Peoria Police Department has gone Web 2.0 by posting its top-10 most-wanted criminals on its their Web site similar to America's Most Wanted Dirty Dozen.

Have you seen these people?

The wanted list format is the same; Peoria's even asking citizens like you to provide any information you may have about their ten criminals. Yet one crucial difference exists between the hard-hitting crime show and the Peoria 10: most of Peoria's top 10 desperados landed in the limelight for minor offenses like the posession or attempted sale of narcotics. Really? Handling pot is enough to get you in the top 10?

Nevermind the fact that America's Most Wanted is so bad ass they kicked their wanted list up to 12 criminals, let's take a look at what they're wanted for. Emigdio Preciado, Jr. is wanted for attempted murder...of a cop! Jason Derek Brown has been accused of murder during an armed robbery of an armored car.

Admittedly, two of Peoria's 10 are wanted for assault charges. Two more are wanted for things like "questioning" and "false reporting." Peoria Police must be doing a great job if lying gets you in the top 10.

I have to agree. What's going to happen once they catch these people? Peoria's Most Wanted will consist of people wanted for doing beer runs and TP'ing people's houses. I think the good citizens of our communities combined with over-zealous law enforcement has made hard-core criminals out of a couple potheads.

I have to agree with Mr. McNamara 100% on this one. What's going to happen to this website when they've caught their top 10? We will be advised to "not attempt to apprehend" a list of people accused of going on beer runs and TP'ing properties within city limits. Unfortunately, it seems as though our law enforcement is prepared to deal with the lawlessness that may be common to other cities of our size or bigger, but are forced to apply their training to a couple potheads a guy wanted for questioning. Tax dollars went to pay for the creation of this "Most Wanted" list, I'd rather they pay for our gas.

Anatomy of a Police State says:

Wake up Arizona, now Peoria is competing with Andrew Thomas and Arpaio --- this is just the beginning and it's unacceptable. The government and law enforcement have all the resources and when they cross the line who is there watching? The people pay their salaries and its' time to reign in the "reign of terror:" in Maricopa County. Arpaio, Thomas and now Peoria is going to get into the act!! It's insane.

Steve Saulka says:

Peoria as police state. Shame on us.

nothing but a bunch of John Walsh copycats. It is really horrible when I see all these things that are only exploiting the horrible death of Adam Walsh.

A somewhat similar event happened at St. Thomas in Peoria Heights. It wasn’t as direct a threat as this, but it’s still worth noting in relation to this occurrence. Thank you for sharing this useful information.

Fed Up in Peoria says:

I happen to know the young lady shown in your article has a warrant out for an unpaid traffic ticket and she's on "Peoria's 10 Most Wanted"? I live in Peoria and watch the local news daily and these are the kind of people they're focusing their attention on arresting? GET REAL!!
