Kiss My Bottom: Paul McCartney and Other Awful Album Titles

PAUL_MCCARTNEY.jpg
Last night's Grammy Awards was a mixed bag, but it was hard not to well up a bit hearing Paul McCartney sing "Golden Slumbers." It wasn't his first performance of the night -- he started off with a performance of "My Valentine," from his strangely titled new record, Kisses on the Bottom.

It hasn't even been a week since its release, but the record is already being hailed as owning one of the worst titles ever. Even Fox News thinks so. (Whoa!)

Country crooner Brad Paisley took to Twitter saying: "It's only February, but Sir Paul is an absolute lock for worst album title of the year. Actually, maybe all time."

Apparently Sir Paul isn't telling all those Rolling Stones fans they can just kiss his British ass; he's actually referring to the XOXOXO's that accompany the bottom of a love letter. We can blame Fats Waller for writing this line back in 1935: "I'm gonna sit right down and write myself a letter and make believe it came from you; I'm gonna write words oh so sweet. They're gonna knock me off of my feet. A lot of kisses on the bottom, I'll be glad I got 'em."

Here's a look back at a couple of other album atrocities.

Jerome may be America's highest and largest ghost town, but that doesn't mean you can't dip into one of the many storefronts to thumb through some vinyl.

Renfield Record Exchange specializes in rare vinyl records and out-of-print CDs, but you can also replace your El Camino album if it somehow gets lost making the 90-mile trek from Phoenix.

Perennial '90s power pop act, Nada Surf make a strong showing this week, along with Polish rockers, Don't Ask Smingus, and eclectic hip-hop collective, Doomtree.

Contrary to popular belief, CD's and vinyl are moving off of music store shelves just fine. According to a report in the Washington Post just last week, 2011 marked the first rise in U.S. album sales since 2004.

Tempe's neighborhood music store, Hoodlums, can vouch for that having enjoyed a pretty good year themselves.

The store's blog has compiled a couple of pretty cool year-in-review lists including 2011's top vinyl releases. If you haven't already, now is a good time to take inventory of your own milk crates and see if you're missing any of these titles. Corridos and rancheras have a long history of storytelling, dance-inducing beats and violence.

Its been 19 years since the legendary Chalino Sanchez was nearly gunned down during a performance at a club in Coachella, California in 1992. He was shot in the side, but was able to pop off a few rounds of his own that night.

Sanchez survived that shooting but died mysteriously later that same year.
