Grouplove: Win Tickets to the Sold-Out Show

Categories: Giveaway

You know, we're not sure we can trust this Grouplove band.

Just say it out loud. "Grouplove." Sounds pretty hippie-ish, right? Might as well be named "Communelove," or "Socialistlove," right? Anyway, beyond that, the Los Angeles-based outfit named its debut LP Never Trust a Happy Song, and it's got songs on "Love Will Save Your Soul," and "Itchin' on a Photograph," that, despite some angsty lyrics, sound kind of happy to me. Yeah, these guys are definitely suspect.

Of course, the folks are way into them. The band's scheduled to perform Thursday, November 15, at the Crescent Ballroom, and that shit's totally sold-out. But, we're on it. Thanks to the folks at Warner Music Group/Atlantic, Up on the Sun has procured one pair of tickets to give away to a lucky reader. How can you get these precious tickets? Read on. It's simple, we promise.

Win Tickets to Hear Baio of Vampire Weekend DJ at Sticky Fingers This Weekend

Categories: Giveaway

Chris Baio of Vampire Weekend
Lots of musicians use their platform and notoriety to score DJ gigs. And why not? Picking the music is fun.

Chris Baio, known for manning the bass guitar in Vampire Weekend (a band whose name combines things very "in" right now: vampires and weekends), sort of did things in reverse. He worked side jobs as a DJ before Vampire Weekend took off, and he's stuck to it, popping up at special gigs when he's not busy with VW or his solo jams.

This weekend finds him moonlighting as a selector once again at Sticky Fingers at Bar Smith, joining William "Fucking Reed, Prince$$, Not-So-Noiz.FKR, 2ToneDisco, J. Paul, Bigie, and Blaque Panther Disco. We have three pairs of tickets to get in the door for free. Must be over 21 to win. Keep reading to score the goods.

Punk rocker Don Bolles shares a name with a particularly legendary AZ Republic reporter in Arizona lore (the dude got blown up). But this Bolles is legendary too, albeit for more musical reasons. As a member of Germs and 45 Grave, he plowed through the punk rock scene of the '70s and '80s, and has established himself as a prominent author, radio DJ, and punk spokesman in recent years.

This weekend is a good one for those looking to get a taste of Bolles' madness: Friday night he plays a special, post-Lighting Bolt set at the Brainwave! psychedelic dance party at the Linden House, where he'll be joined by His Heavy Friends (including Chris Kirkwood of The Meat Puppets). Then, on Saturday night, he'll perform a DJ set at Rebel Yell at the Rogue Bar.

Up on the Sun has three pairs of tickets to give away to the Saturday night party courtesy promoter William "Fucking" Reed. Read on for your chance to win.

Win Tickets to Talib Kweli's "Prisoner of Conscious" Show at Club Red

Categories: Giveaway

Talib Kweli
Talib Kweli doesn't seem to like downtime. Last year he released the celebrated Gutter Rainbows, and Idle Worship, a nu-soul collaboration with singer-songwriter Res, teamed with Yasiin Bey (his partner in Black Star) for the Colbert Report, and took to the streets for Occupy Wall Street.

It's difficult to figure out exactly when Kweli's new record, Prisoner of Conscious, is set to come out (it's pegged for a "summer 2012" release), but here's what we know: the record's title plays on Kweli's "conscious hip-hop" tag, features RZA, Busta Rhymes, Curren$y, Kendrick Lamar, Melanie Fiona, and more, and he's not waiting around for the album to drop to hit the road in support of it.

Kweli is stopping by Club Red in Tempe on Saturday, July 21, and we have a pair of tickets to giveaway courtesy of Move Forward Music. Want to win? Read on.

Fabulous Thunderbirds: Win Tickets to Meet the Band and See the Show

Categories: Giveaway

Over the last 30 years, The Fabulous Thunderbirds have been a blues rock institution, at various times featuring folks like Jimmy Vaughan, Duke Robillard, Kid Bangham, Marc Ford (of The Black Crowes) and ultimate bassist and badass Keith Ferguson.

These days, founding member and vocalist Kim Wilson leads the group. The group's hardly stuck to its strict roadhouse blues roots, instead incorporating those sounds into R&B and rock 'n' roll themes.

Want to Win Tickets To Tonight's Sold-Out Walk the Moon and Young the Giant Show?

Walk the Moon
You guys sure like those Young the Giant guys: Their gig tonight at Crescent Ballroom sold out so quickly they added a second date tomorrow. And it's sold out, too.

But we've got a pair of tickets to giveaway courtesy of Cincinnati popsters Walk the Moon. The quartet (name nicked from a modified Police song title, natch) released their debut, i want! i want! in November of 2010, and was quickly snatched up by RCA records for their forthcoming new record.

Their tunes "Anna Sun" is the kind of buzzy, open-hearted indie pop that is sure to endear them to fans of Young the Giant (if they aren't already won over by the band's face paint-smeared "cute as a button" appeal).

Want to win tickets? Simply follow these two steps.
